This reminds me of the time a history department on a campus I've been employed by (gotta anonymize) did a survey of majors. Turns out history was in decline on that campus. Big dept meeting abt it. Lots of hand wringing and what will be do. I looked at the actual data compiled. Turns out it was decline for every student demographic EXCEPT students of color. Timed precisely to the increased diversity of the faculty.
