This reminds me of the time a history department on a campus I've been employed by (gotta anonymize) did a survey of majors. Turns out history was in decline on that campus. Big dept meeting abt it. Lots of hand wringing and what will be do. I looked at the actual data compiled. Turns out it was decline for every student demographic EXCEPT students of color. Timed precisely to the increased diversity of the faculty.

I said I'd come back with the Chicago Style. Here are some academic things to read about slavery and the digital/data: Britt Rusert, “New World: The Impact of Digitization on the Study of Slavery,” American Literary History 29, no. 2 (May 1, 2017): 267–86 Vincent Brown, “Mapping a Slave Revolt Visualizing Spatial History through the Archives of Slavery,” Social Text 33, no. 4 125 (December 1, 2015): 134–41

Yo. Who even ARE you?? twitter.com/FromSlaves Enough with these projects and websites about slavery that have no faces, no authors, no attribution, and no accountability. No descended engagement. No Black staff. No Black leads. No Black praxis. Just DH and vibes.
