just a reminder that a lot of conservatives make decisions under the assumption that, say, your epilepsy is the result of not being responsible enough to pick better genes actually wait, this would still be pretty monstrous (and likely not even efficient) even if things did work the way he assumes

counterpoint: grammar is not a democracy to be fair, the haters aren’t wrong so much as I was making a normative rather test a descriptive statement...irregardless, I could care less I suppose

question for the data science hive mind: I’ve been noticing patterns in what what I view as analytical BS among some of my coworkers, so I’m guessing they learned this BS somewhere- where can I find info on this universe of BS? I’ll give some examples... one repeated thing is that rather than run a regression of y on x and using it to predict y, they regress y/x on x but as a power function (i.e. y=ax^b), use this to predict, and then multiply by x to get an estimate of y

in case it wasn't already clear that a large part of the free speech crowd is really just against the associated consequences like, I generally don't like random people getting fired for stuff unrelated to their work, but I'm objecting mainly to the power dynamic in that case...in contrast, business owners are not really entitled to anyone's spending

I'll play, with some added "grad students are complicit to some degree"...(1/n) so after our first econometrics exam, our prof sent a number of us an email saying he needed to talk to us about our performance, but of course he sent the emails one at a time and made it seem like we were the only one getting called in...so I make an appointment as requested...

the world is finally combining my professional interests singular.net/blog/ios14-idf… so basically apple is nudging people to not let advertisers track whether they act on ads- it's marketing this as a privacy feature, which it is, but I don't think customers are good at thinking about the follow-on implications of this

ok here's a story about fireworks and unequal treatment by police that I really never expected to be topical to anything, but 2020 just had to prove me wrong...(1/n) so my friend worked for bank of america, hated it, and *may* have been a little high when he decided he wanted to destroy this stupid lucite work anniversary thing he'd been given like the day after BoA laid off his dad...

well you said to start with an album, so let's talk about the soundtrack to the 1995 film Clueless...yes, I know, what could possibly come from one of that short-lived genre of loosely based on Shakespeare cheesy teen flicks, but here me out... for example, would it surprise you to learn that this was my first exposure to Radiohead (Fake Plastic Trees, in case you're curious)

more story time: so we hear about GM employee discounts when they do that offering them to everyone bit, by there’s a super interesting part they leave out... at least historically, there were two options, named very creatively as option 1 and option 2...option 1 was a specified discount off MSRP thst varied by vehicle, and option 2 was 5 percent off the best deal you could get from a dealer

ok, story time...it starts with the fun fact that @aptweacher was a dancer in Super Bowl XXIII (she's gonna be so mad at me but she'll get over it) @aptweacher the Super Bowl, as it was this year, was in Miami, so they plastered tryout signs around local high schools and community colleges and such...my mom, being a high school teacher, saw them and was like uh are they any age restrictions or whatnot?

starting to think it's not a coincidence that W and Kav were in the same fraternity at the same school actually, here's a fun story about favors...so, there was this kid who hooked up with the daughter of a fancy professor (honestly I'd say who except for this point) and then learned in the morning AT HIS HOUSE that the girl was the spawn of a fancy person...

I've noticed that a number of jobs I've applied to have reposted their job listings, so I'm becoming more inclined to name and shame (well, not always shame) in case it's helpful to others first one's not a shame so much as an example of how things should work, since I'm basically a wuss...
