Tipsy Thread 🧵🍷
I'm grateful that -as a planned kid- my parents NEVER let me take it for granted that I was lucky.
I'm neurotypical, tall, male, from Western Uganda at a time when that's an advantage; I understand the social norms of the middle class that have given me access. I never had to worry about school fees, or whether I'd have a home to sleep in. I went to school with the cream of Kampala's middle class -people I meet in board rooms to this day. Countless advantages that if let to my own experience, I'd think this is normal.

When I filled out my A-level forms and asked my dad if I should do sciences or arts...I was good at literature, economics & History, but I also loved biology and physics.

The old man looked at me and said
"It's your life. Go for what you want. I did."

The freedom was terrifying When I got my first management job, I told him about it and he said " Good is it what you want?".

For every milestone achieved, I wanted so badly to get his approval.
I didn't realize he already approved of me. He wanted me to approve of myself and the life I wanted.

I think we actually need to spend MORE time paying attention to politics.

Not the politicians and the sensationalization of their actions, but a level deeper at the policies they craft, the interests they serve, and other "Boring things" that determine our material conditions. If I were a politician, I'd gladly have people think of me as just more celebrity fodder
Follow my antics and not my productivity.
Enjoy my fiery speeches but don't search my voting record on bills.
Personal stories capture the public imagination more than sober policy analysis.

The life expectancy in Uganda is 64 years.

Let's imagine you beat that and live to about 82 years( Life expectancy average in the global north); sounds like a long life.

But is it? Short 🧵 So you get 82 years. The first 20 are mostly growing to discover who you are.

Let's say you are 20 reading this.

This means you have 62 years left of life.

That's about 22, 630 days or 543, 120 hours.

Not too bad, right?

I turn 37 on Sunday

Here's 23 random things I wish I'd known back when I was 27 👇🏾 1. Time doesn't feel the same.

They'll tell you we all have the same 24 hours, but the days can get longer and the years shorter.

You really don't have as much time as you think.

Short thread on words/concepts I've used synonymously when in fact they have some key differences.

Things I do when Umeme does its thing. Flammable and Inflammable
Flammable means capable of being set fire to, like wood or the rain( according to Adele) with an igniting source.

Inflammable means capable of bursting into flame in the right conditions. Like my mood if served milk tea!!

Game theory Thread:

Every time I sit in traffic, and see goons decide to drive horribly, I wonder what's wrong with us. But after awhile, I asked myself - is that second lane creator being rational? 😟

Let's go 1. It may seem odd to refer to serious, complex systems as games, but in reality, interdependent actors seeking goals and outcomes affected by situations and actions of others can just as ably describe chess as it does the global financial system
