Can the Prime Minister get out of his current bind? Experience says that where no other politician could find wiggle room, Boris Johnson always can. Assuming that Sue Gray’s report leaves the PM still standing, then he needs to “burn up the road”.
1. Apologise. Make an effusive and sincere apology. Take full personal responsibility. Admit fault. Commit to being a changed person.
2. Draw a line under it. Move a no confidence motion in the Commons. Make your MPs choose between backing you or Christian Wakeford and Labour.

Advice to No 10 staff facing a police inquiry, from one who has.
1. Get a solicitor. They will get you a good QC. Listen to them and take their advice. Make sure your employer is paying.
2. Don’t be interviewed on the premises. Or in a police station. There are plenty of discreet places you can go to. Let your solicitor liaise about venues and timing.
