1. Funding rates are the estimated payments to traders that are either long or short after a given time interval. If the majority of traders are long, funding rates will be positive, and the traders who are long will pay shorts to balance out the contracts once the time is up

1) First things first I always start on the higher timeframes and mark my levels of interest. Since I wasn't in a long already, I was eagerly looking for a long in avax since it was showing strength compared to the rest of the market (btc).
