I'm old enough to have watched The Waltons during its initial run.

Loved it as a kid.

As an adult, the earnest schmaltz seemed cringe. 1/ Image My younger kids wanted to watch some regular TV, so we recently started from season 1.

Living now with the echoes of my America fading to silence, this show hits very different. 2/ Image

Private Equity, a lament 🧵
In which you will learn how a nearly invisible [to normies] group of financial wreckers has been exploiting the American economy for decades. It’s long and maybe tedious, but it’s an important way the wealthy in US have been extracting an ever greater share of the nation’s bounty.

I know I sound like a lefty here, and I have even surprised myself, given how hard right I am, to come to this conclusion.

Also, please forgive some of my ai generated illustrations. I had to do a lot of them and it was more time consuming than writing the copy, not to mention I’m not great at it. My experience with effort posting is that images are very important to keep people’s attention.Image Over the past couple of years, investment management companies like Black Rock, State Street, and Vanguard have been excoriated on twitter for pushing ESG, buying up private houses, and in general ruining America for regular people. Am reading this book right now. The Kinsey reports in late 40's, early 50's are some of the sexual revolution's founding documents. His "research" was flawed and fraudulent, and Kinsey's main goals were to a) normalize homo-sex and b) mainstream pedophilia 1/

Part of what's shocking about the "research" is that he incorporated reports from pedos to establish claims about "child sexuality". It's still not clear to what extent he participated in their crimes, but at the very least he helped them evade justice 2/ Image

Observing the trend away from formality in US death ritual. Fewer wakes, visitations, funerals. Often just an informal "memorial" lunch at a restaurant. 1/ Yesterday heard about someone from edge of silent/boomer divide who didn't even get that. Kids just cremated him without any occasion at all. Like he was some kind of heinous criminal to be instantly forgotten. 2/
