🚨Separated children update:

✅Judge Sabraw gave the green light for an improved plan to find the kids

- incl. a "jump start pilot" based on some data found by HHS, CBP recently

⏰He'll order a 6 month deadline - a big improvement on "1 to 2 years" first proposed by the gov't @DemocracyStorm @ifindkarma @axidentaliberal @TrisResists @Norberta36 @lfkraus @MsActiviss @ArtistsPo @B52Malmet @TheSWPrincess Background: ACLU is back in court fighting for potentially thousands more children separated between July 1, 2017 and June 25, 2018.

Judge Sabraw recently ordered that the Ms. l. v. ICE Class does cover this timeframe. The first step is for the government to identify the kids.

The Gov't has a new Rule coming into force Nov 6 which would end the Flores settlement

Flores is incredibly important

Protects children from indefinite detention

& requires minimum conditions

CRITICALLY requires the use of licensed facilities

1/10 Imagine if the government can decide to use Southwest Key - after Arizona revokes its licence for abuses of children - without the legal means for us to oppose it?

tucson.com/news/local/ari…

And what can we do NOW?

Help stop this horrifying new rule that would end Flores.

@SuMoh7 My personal opinion: It looks as though the Trump administration is still not acting in good faith -
- 908 parents are "not expected to be eligible" - in the majority of cases this is because the parent requires "further evaluation".

@SuMoh7 DHS Sec. Nielsen said her agency would "do its best" to meet the July 26 deadline but would "not cut corners" on vetting parents.

However - in the prior Status Conference on 16 July, the Judge made the point that the vast majority of parents had their children removed -

Update on the ACLU action Ms. L. v. ICE:

Order on July 10: day of 1st deadline to reunite 102 kids aged under 5.

Judge Sabraw ordered the government to abide by the deadline except for a longer time frame for 39 more complex cases: usatoday.com/story/news/nat…

Thread 1/7 Order for children under age 5:

63 must be reunited by Tuesday July 10.

The others with more complicated cases, including 12 whose parents have been removed from the country - an extended timeframe / plan will be ordered by the Judge in the coming days.
