Wait, what in the world is this? Black and minority ethnic jurors are so anti-White biased that they are useless as jurors?

Does this hold up in other samples? If true it puts in doubt our whole justice system.

It's from this long report:
ucl.ac.uk/judicial-insti…Image Could we get a second look at whether or not our justice system is in fact completely broken in multiethnic socities? Seems worth getting a second sample about

I've started watching the Netflix miniseries about the Central Park 5.

With the knowledge that they are quite certainly guilty (see ie the Armstrong report), it could be interesting how the regime propaganda will spin it.

🧵 Image It opens with an almost comically tiny boy actor portraying Kevin Richardson Image

New paper from David Reich lab:

West Eurasian / European populations have had strong recent genetic selection for a number of traits.

Among these, positive selection for intelligence and education. Negative selection for body fat percentage, darker skin color, and schizophrenia Image Paper

There is a sensational new TV documentary in Denmark called Den sorte svane (The Black Swan), in which a mole provides hidden footage from the criminal underworld.

One character we meet is Fasar. He was previously declared guilty by a jury for crimes that amounted to 58 years in prison. But he did not serve a day in prison because he was deemed "psychotic at the time of the crime". This happened multiple times! In the show, we see him laughing about it and describing how the judge said, "Can't you see how vulnerable this person is? I will give no punishment."

During the period that the TV mole investigation was running, it seems that he probably eliminated a witness.Image

A thread about the Musk-Lemon interview. Seemingly unlike Musk, I think there was a good deal of interesting stuff here! There is value in talking across political sides, even if it can feel adversarial.

🧵Image Is CNN left?

Elon Musk
I saw segment. CNN is generally considered Left, yeah.

Don Lemon
Why do you say that?

Elon Musk
Why do I say CNN is generally considered Left? I think if you look at any sort of media survey of what is on the Left or Right, I think they would say, for example, Fox is on the Right and CNN is on the Left.

Elon is right that surveys say this:Image

Asylum seekers and immigrants from Morocco and Horn of Africa costs the Dutch state €475,000-€625,000 per immigrant.

This can't be the best use of resources! Even if you are only interested in using the tax money to help non-Dutch people, you can save a life for ~€5,000. Image The native Dutch population is projected to decline, while the number of costly non-Western immigrants will continue to increase: Image

The complaints in this thread are unwarranted.

The point of the figure is to show that regarding interracial crime, white-on-Black is the smallest, but the most covered in the media.

The figure does not illustrate other aspects, but it doesn't claim to. He says that this table is vastly superior to the bar chart.

But what if what you want to know is how much interracial crime there are of the different categories?

That is very easy to see in the graph, and not as easy in the table. Image

Lisa Cook, FED board nominee, wrote a paper in 2014. It is lauded in this @paulmromer post, on Planet Money, and listed prominently on her Wikipedia.

But the paper is completely flawed, and should have not even been published.

It claims that Black Patents went down in your 1900 following increased lynchings.

About half of Democratic voters are completely unhinged about covid.

1. Would you favor having federal or state governments require that citizens temporarily live in designated facilities or locations if they refuse to get a COVID-19 vaccine? - 45%

Mask mandates need to end

1. There is no evidence that they help slow community spread.

2. Even if they did help, slowing the spread slightly is not an important outcome.

1/n
I was among the people early on saying that maybe masks work, and that we should try / investigate.

But that was when we didn't have much observational knowledge, and we didn't have vaccines.

I think Omicron was with high likelihood a lab leak too. And most of the world is failing *again* to take this possibility seriously.

1/n
1. It is based on a variant last seen in mid-2020. That is a very odd path for a virus to evolve naturally. But a normal one if it was investigated in a lab since then. Image

Ivermectin doesn’t reduce mortality in COVID a significant amount (let’s say d > 0.3) in the absence of comorbid parasites: 85-90% confidence Side question: Has that NYT reporter who wrote a critical, doxxing article about Scott Alexander done anything as useful in his life as even this one blog post?

@Sean__Last Take the ED study. How many people over a year increase their porn use by a lot? Probably not that many. How many people have a measurable increase in ED over that period. Again not that many. And the sample size here is 200. @Sean__Last The power to detect long-term effects here that do not vary much over a single year period is therefore extremely low.

In my opinion, it is a mistake to vaccinate children with any of the new vaccines.

If it's important that they are vaccinated, we should wait for Novovax.

1 / n These vaccines have shown an extremely high number of side effects compared to previous vaccines. (A few percent, compared to 0.05% for flu vaccines.) The side effects include serious things such as thrombosis and myocarditis.

I think the covid vaccines have potential risk of long term damaging effects. I think governments have recklessly dropped the ball in investigating this in a serious way.

This is a thread for things I find in researching this question. Comment if you have something.

I am not anti-vaccines. But there are many types of vaccines to choose from. We should take much more seriously the challenge of figuring out which ones are best regarding potential long-term side effects, instead of only thinking about efficacy.

Vaccine thread

I am pro-vaccines, and think they are an amazing invention.

But, I think the covid vaccines we are using today may be a mistake.

Especially if you are younger, or have children who may be getting a vaccine, I would consider it seriously.

1/n
My main reason for skepticism is that the vaccines are built on a new technology, for which we have no way of knowing the long-term effects.

A secondary reason is that they narrowly target the spike protein, which may mutate in the future, and render the vaccines less effective

I'm going to take another stab at explaining why the virus most likely came from the lab

1/n
The essential fact is that there are extremely few labs that study corona viruses at the level of the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab. Maybe two others in the world, and WIV has maybe the largest collection of corona viruses.
