People of Leeds @yorkshirepost @leedslivenews

I come bearing sad news

Unless things change direction in the next few years Leeds will face in the coming decades food shortages, mass suffering and societal collapse.

Let me try and explain. 1. The sobering truth is that we are living in a world of climate breakdown at 1.2 degrees above pre-industrial temperatures.

The science is clear. See the latest IPCC report. ipcc.ch/report/ar6/syr/ or watch Attenborough bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

I understand that @JustStop_Oil have put paint on the front of Barclays bank.

Good citizens of Leeds.

This may not be your cup of yorkshire tea but do remember that @Barclays are the worst climate offending bank in Europe by financially supporting fossil fuel expansion. @antonioguterres said that ‘We are on the highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator’ Barclays are profiteering from a climate breakdown. A future which in all probability, and without major systemic change, will mean that Yorkshire will face mass suffering.

I’m a leeds resident and work and raise my family in Leeds. Today @JustStop_Oil are planning on slow walking the roads of Leeds to traffic delays and disruption. There aim in for the the UK government to stop expanding the fossil fuel industry.

Here are my thoughts. (1) We need to wake up the hard truth that we really are in a climate and ecological emergency. In the words of the @antonioguterres ‘humanity is on the highway to to climate hell with its foot on the accelerator’

The mission of the church (Including fresh expressions, church planting, etc) needs to be understood in the context of the long emergency of climate breakdown. @churchofengland @gregorycentreCX @JustinWelby @selvaratnam @MarkPowley1 @churchofengland @gregorycentreCX @JustinWelby @selvaratnam @MarkPowley1 As well as looking at mitigation we NEED to ADAPT to what will be a rapidly changing world. (1)We need to build localized resilient communities who care deeply for each other and the most vulnerable.
