Court watching for @JustCity901 today: This should come as a no surprise, but despite Tennessee’s incredibly lax gun laws, young, Black men in Memphis are frequently charged and arrested for unlawful possession of guns that they are fully entitled to possess.
66-year old man so hard of hearing the judge had to basically yell at him from three feet away. He can barely stand or move. In jail since July on a misdemeanor. $4,000 bond. Filed a motion for speedy indictment which was dismissed today. He understood nothing.

Yesterday, a woman with no prior criminal history is accused of taking $19 worth of merchandise from a store. She is arrested instead of given a citation at the scene. She has a $100 bond set. 1/4
Today, she is appointed a lawyer with @DefendShelbyCo The State of Tennessee agrees to dismiss her case in exchange for a $50 "donation" to charity. Being locked up, she doesn't have $50 on her. 2/4
