“Fascism” is one of the most repeated but least understood words in political discourse, perhaps second only to “socialism” in words whose meaning has been almost entirely lost, in common discourse, to relentless, politically-motivated misuse. So why not a disambiguation🧵, eh? What I'm going to do here is adapted from a pair of articles I wrote wrote some years ago on the subject of fascism. Covering fascism and Donald Trump, they required an overview of the former (and this thread won't be about the latter).

To continue this thread (hey, why not?), the failure of Build Back Better--the agenda Biden claimed as his own but in which he didn't seem particularly interested--is a great illustration of the Keystone Cops-level incompetence of the Dems' zombie Clintonite-right "leadership." Image Build Back Better (BBB) began as a multi-trillion-dollar proposal of moderate and many fairly progressive reforms, encompassing the agenda Biden claimed to support.

As I've written so often that regular readers are probably sick of hearing it, "conservatism," in the many ways we've traditionally known it, has now virtually ceased to exist, completely consumed by what could anachronistically be called "Trumpian protofascism"--MAGA-ism. John Daniel Davidson's article in the Federalist straight up calls for eschewing the "libertarian" right in favor of a "revolutionary" authoritarian rightist movement. He doesn't call it fascism, but that's exactly what he's describing.

The long run of "neoliberal" policies (which @MarxMidwest hits in his next tweet in this brief thread) is far more explanatory here than any of the Obama foreign policy matters. Presentation quibble aside, the larger thesis of this brief thread is inarguable. There have been, in recent years, efforts by various Clintonite-right interests to dispute this, to dismiss "economic anxiety" as irrelevant to MAGA-ism and put the movement, instead, at the feet of "white supremacist" attitudes. None have been at all convincing.

Continuing this thread, how out of touch are these "Democratic leaders"?

How outta touch ya' got? Image With the U.S. Supreme Court taking a chainsaw to the liberal society and Repubs across the U.S. enthusiastically facilitating this by feeding the court a steady stream of civil liberties to hack up, Biden doesn't just oppose reforms to the court aimed at stopping this.

"President" Donald Trump is sort of the latest escalation of a process that really began with Reagan, where corruption in the executive branch is so endemic it's the natural state and anything else the exception. This is often one of the best-kept secrets in the corporate press, which, for most of his administration, has devoted an absurdly inordinate amount of attention to "Russia, Russia, Russia" rubbish. But the stories do get reported, even if they are immediately left behind.
