I know a lot of folks that work and DC and I know a lot more secondhand, but I have to say, this whole Round Robin thing just makes me absolutely nauseous on a deep level. I am not a fan of what comics pros call cook-offs in the first place, where you have multiple creators pitch But what really gets me about Round Robin in particular is that it's not just a cook off, it's The Hunger Games for creators. They can't get paid much to create a pitch. I've made requested pitches where I've been paid nothing. And creators aren't employees.

The English major and comics writer in me gets itchy when posts like this get thrown around, because while Literature is Important, what underlies this conversation is canon. Gatsby & 1984 are parts of the American literary canon. Writing we decided everybody should know. Lolita, Gatsby, 1984 - all dark books about dark men with dark feelings and dark insights. Yes, they have important things to say, but they also take up a disproportionate amount of curricula and library space because somebody decided they were important.

There was something really sinister I learned writing Unstoppable Wasp that I didn't with Princeless:
Some people think it is okay to let girls like and do boy things because boy things are better and they think that girl is an exception. They still think girl things are lesser. A recurring complaint when Unstoppable Wasp started that I hadn't anticipated was that the characters (teenage girls) sounded like teenage girls. To me, this was a compliment. I nailed it! That's not how they meant it.

Hey comics twitter, can we talk a moment?
I do a lot of talking about how much the comics world has changed in the time I've been doing Princeless and how many excited girls I have come to my table.
But there is one deeply screwed up thing that hasn't changed: how you treat boys I am much more likely to get a supportive parent (mother or father) that picks up Princeless and gets it for their daughter than I am a parent that gets one for their son. At one point, I thought this was not big deal, but then it started to become a patter with books I write
