Ss Timothy & Titus today. As a priest I find St Paul’s Second Letter to St Timothy rich & relevant to my life, particularly in difficult times.
Paul says to him & all priests: ‘I remind you to enkindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands’. (1:6)
When we’re tempted to fear, Paul continues: ‘God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power & love & self-control’ (1:7). In this context, Paul urges St Titus & us, to teach sound doctrine, be models of good deeds, integrity, gravity & sound speech (Tit 2:1-11).

St Albert today, the Lawgiver of Carmel. Religious, Bishop, Patriarch of Jerusalem, reformer, murder victim. When St Brocard approached him for a Rule of life for the Carmelite hermits, Albert reflected on their life & wrote a new Rule rather than impose one already written. -
- Albert’s Rule is very short, but profound. Steeped in Scripture, he draws on St Paul as well as the Gospels. Emphasising prayer, poverty of spirit & life, he uses the hermits’ previous experience as knights to help them order their lives by urging allegiance to Jesus Christ. -

This feast of St Maria Goretti reminds me of a story from the life of the SofG Frank Duff, miracle of grace. Many of you may know of his & the Legion of Mary’s rescuing women from prostitution & closing down Dublin’s red light district, believed to be the worst on Europe. 1/
Frank & one of his heroic companions in the Legion, Josephine Plunkett, decided to enter the district, know as the Monto, to see what they could do. They were given the name of one woman there, Mary Tate, who lived in the Brothel at No 8 Elliott Place: ‘Mary Tate at No 8’ as 2/
