It’s not weird, people are unwilling to make changes to their lifestyles, individually and collectively. The more urgent the need for lifestyle changes become, the harder ppl will deny reality. It is the same phenomenon as COVID. There is no logic, only desperation for status quo We’ve known Dems/center left are “soft” deniers for decades bc their “plans” to avert climate change never matched up remotely with the timelines scientists gave us to avert catastrophic outcomes like destruction of half of arable land on earth this century

In my article for Zeteo last month, I talked this weird framing of “the pandemic isn’t over for ppl w long covid”. Ppl still get long covid every day. So the pandemic isn’t over for the ppl who will develop long covid tomorrow, but we don’t know who those ppl are…so…? It’s just very frustrating how the media continues to try and force a dichotomy between “ppl who can be harmed by covid” (which is all the ppl who’ve been harmed so far) and “everyone else who can’t be” - this is not based on anything. It’s a total fiction

Disabled ppl have been warning FOR YEARS about a rise in eugenicist thinking bc of the pandemic, normalization of COVID, the push to remove ppl from society if we can’t tolerate covid infx, & the papering over of an ongoing mass disabling event. This is the inevitable result. And it is just getting started. I warned years ago that repeatedly infecting ppl wasn’t, in fact, culling the herd and creating some race of “uber mensch” like those in charge clearly believed it would. Instead you’ve made everyone sicker and created more and more disabled ppl.

CDC continues to promote the idea that surgical masks, which are designed as a form of “droplet” infection control, is the proper protection against flu & COVID. We’ve now know that this is incorrect; that NO viruses actually transmit only via droplets:

thegauntlet.news/p/cdc-infectio… x.com/cdcflu/status/… The CDC is not alone in their efforts to continue misleading and confusing both the public and healthcare workers. The WHO refuses to acknowledge that, bc the science HAS CHANGED as of 2021, ALL healthcare settings now need to upgrade infection control:

One thing that makes me so sad about ppl being in denial about COVID causing health problems is that they continue to get reinfected. This is not some academic debate. It’s not about saying I told you so. Ppl are going to continue declining bc of propaganda COVID can worsen and trigger such a wide variety of health conditions. Autoimmune diseases, diabetes, strokes and heart attacks. It gave me new onset chronic migraines. If I hadn’t known about Long COVID, would I have understood COVID triggered my migraines?

Yet ppl on this app will treat you like you’re a conspiracy theorist getting your information from the darkest corners of YouTube when you simply repeat what the World Health Organization has repeatedly told us instead of what Joe Biden says Learn about Long COVID and stop willingly exposing yourself to reinfections because politicians said to:

The idea that people who want disease mitigation and public health measures are “afraid” originated on the far right. MAGA ppl used this rhetoric against liberals for years until in early 2022, Dave leonhardt at NYTimes began adapting it for a lib audience 🧵 Image In my piece about the media’s decision to manufacture consent for continual COVID waves and endless reinfections with a virus that carries a high risk of disability, i track how misinfo was integrated into reporting, and right wing ideas mainstreamed

And it’s a shame they don’t understand how it’s harming THEM, particularly at a time when disabled ppl’s wisdom will serve you so so well in an ongoing pandemic if you’d just listen.

Misogyny hurts men too, white supremacy hurts whites too, and ableism hurts ableds too. Disabled ppl have the depth of knowledge here; about disease, about chronic illness, about medical violence, about what will happen if you’re disabled by a virus. We’re now expert mitigators with a whole toolbox to make spaces safe and willing to provide the education

Right now we’re in it but if you were to look back at this era w the benefit of a century it would be CLEAR that the pandemic, just like in 1918, accelerated fascism as it brought eugenicist ideas into the mainstream In a few short years we went from “let’s protect the vulnerable” to large swaths of those SAME PPL being spitting mad at the very idea of being asked to think of strangers as their responsibility, & categorizing vulnerable ppl as a disposable “other” whose deaths are irrelevant

I know it’s a small thing but the FLiRT variants are KP.1 and KP.2; for some time KP.3 (not a FLiRT) and LB.1 have had the growth advantage - it’s just frustrating seeing how little our news outlets know yet talk like experts

If you get covid now it’s more likely KP.3 or LB.1 Also notice how the media loves to “correct” old misinfo it promoted, they quote a Dr saying “The dogma is that every time you get COVID, it’s milder,” lol well no, that’s just a bunch of bullshit your paper and others have been pushing, covid experts never said that

The @nytimes , more than any other single journalistic entity, is responsible for the new normal of unmitigated COVID transmission, condemning millions of disabled and immunocompromised ppl to isolate from society indefinitely:

thegauntlet.news/p/how-the-pres…
Their work spread blatant misinformation like “COVID is mild now”, “breakthrough infections are rare”, “reinfection is rare”, ignores Long COVID and normalizes right wing lies like “illness will make you healthy” and “public health is a personal choice”

I rly don’t think the public understands that healthcare facilities are full of ppl in denial that COVID was proven to be airborne so they continue pushing surgical masks instead of n95 respirators which are appropriate for airborne infection control

It’s rly weird I am being literal about denial, yes some ppl will say “I don’t want to” but a lot of doctors and nurses and infection control ppl genuinely won’t let go of what they (incorrectly) learned in school, that respiratory viruses spread only through droplets (sneezing, coughing)

@DoorenspleetR @lxeagle17 Really really sad and shameful, and the cherry on top is the public continuing to dismiss all these millions of deaths as irrelevant - and of course to entirely ignore the tens of millions disabled. I shouldn’t have to argue that millions of preventable deaths should be prevented @DoorenspleetR @lxeagle17 Clean air now - ventilation and filtration, and even cool newer tools like Far UVC- is such an easy first step. Understand that normalizing these deaths, otherizing ppl who die and stigmatizing those who mask, is all part of a project to ensure you don’t demand better

@lxeagle17 Over 75,000 people died of Covid last year according to death certificate data, making it by far the most deadly infectious disease in the US.

Reintroducing measles, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria and mumps would be less deadly by far

thegauntlet.news/p/covid-lulls-… @lxeagle17 Covid variants outpace vaccine development significantly, and our vaccines PEAK in efficacy by the 3 month mark. That means they’ve continually been losing efficacy 3 months after the shots - shots from 3 years ago are doing little

There’s a big Covid surge hitting the west rn btw

Rly sick of these ppl excluding disabled ppl, ignoring millions of people with Long COVID, actively disabling and harming folks w their lack of mitigations, and calling themselves progressives.

Do. Better. I just rly wanna know what exactly the squad’s advice is for people with Long COVID, how EXACTLY they’re sposd to exist in public because they can’t do shit without getting reinfected and you all have ZERO. PLAN. Except silence and denial and spreading disease.

EXACTLY what I’ve been saying must bc going on based on spiking cases in places like Korea, where the vaccination rate is like 97%

We’re breaking our vaccines by bringing down the herd immunity wall bc too many kids’ immune systems are getting kicked in the teeth by COVID. Herd immunity relies on most ppl having healthy, functional immune systems, and combines that with most ppl being vaccinated, to produce a population that largely has a VERY LOW (not zero) chance of infection. Bc most ppl’s chance of infection is very low, spread grinds to a halt

Heard about a leftish person having a tantrum about being asked to mask and calling it “being locked in the house”.

Once again:
-that is a right wing talking pt
-it makes no sense
-mask does not = locked in house
- disabled ppl are having to avoid public spaces indefinitely This was not someone I know personally, but the tone of the response was immediately defensive and angry. Instead of engaging with the science and having an adult discussion he defaulted to far-right MAGA talking points and painted himself as a victim of disabled ppl

This story is very sad and it’s also why I rly rly urge ppl to stop surrounding yourself with “we have to live our lives and if ppl die or get disabled that’s their problem” type of folks bc WHAT do you think they’ll do if YOU get disabled? Like my reasons for seeking out Covid safe ppl/ ppl who will mask in public places is BOTH for my safety but also bc it’s rly critical to cultivate community with actual values. Surround yourself w ableists while risking disability is a very bad plan!

Months before I got Covid for the first time, I wrote this piece about lack of infection control in hospitals.

This week I got to experience it myself when I reluctantly went to the ER for a 10 day migraine- itself a post COVID health issue

thegauntlet.news/p/hospitals-ar… The last thing I should’ve had to worry about with my pounding head and nausea was making certain my n95 mask never slipped an inch- bc there was zero airborne infection control and I was put in a bed 2 feet from a guy w a positive strep test and possible Covid

The @nytimes was instrumental in forcing kids back into unsafe schools without clean air, now they are much sicker. Instead of facing reality, they invent an explanation that requires apparently zero evidence to publish. Kids are sick. You helped normalize it. Image I’m so blown away that a respected news outlet can both 1) deny the very clear data that kids are sicker while 2) making up an absurd ideological theory like “our relationship to school became optional”. Does that describe any parents you know?

ICYMI:
Media celebrated Long COVID Awareness Day by denying its existence.

Long COVID is a thorn in the side of "back to normal." Attempts to silence patients are intensifying.

thegauntlet.news/p/media-celebr… This political choice- elevating a single unpublished study which examined a total of zero patients and ran a total of zero tests- when tens of thousands of others contradict its findings, is unsurprising.
