For those of you who missed the first Democratic debate for U.S. Senate in PA yesterday, let's thread what happened and give you the necessary context.

It'll be LONG, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on what we saw. First, the bottomline: Lamb/Kenyatta found unity in poking fun at the empty lectern where John Fetterman would have stood — if he attended — but split on their views on fracking + what it’ll take to win. post-gazette.com/news/politics-…

Here for the first official Democratic debate for U.S. Senate on a rainy Sunday at Muhlenberg College.

Conor Lamb and Malcolm Kenyatta are participating.

John Fetterman won’t be here. The college followed through with the empty podium vow. They’ve had candidate ‘forums’ before but this will be the first time they’ll be encouraged to go toe to toe, in the traditional sense.

New: Ripping the bandaid off an otherwise-tame U.S. Senate primary, Conor Lamb is alleging that the reason John Fetterman is missing Sunday’s Democratic debate is because he’s avoiding questions about an incident from 2013 in Braddock. post-gazette.com/news/politics-… Lamb alleged that Fetterman is afraid of his own record, and referred to a news report from when Fetterman, then mayor of Braddock, pursued and pulled a shotgun on a man because he believed he may have been involved in a shooting. The man turned out to be an unarmed Black jogger.

ICYMI: Sean Parnell, an Army veteran who was Donald Trump’s preferred choice for Senate before he dropped from the race the same day he lost sole legal custody of his children, endorsed Bill McSwain for Pennsylvania governor on Thursday. post-gazette.com/news/politics-… McSwain, who was a top federal prosecutor under Trump, touted the endorsement and deemed Parnell an “outspoken defender of our conservative values, constitutional liberties, veterans’ rights, and an advocate for hard-working families across the Commonwealth.”

BREAKING: Federal judge UPHOLDS the counting of the few hundred challenged ballots in Pa's 45th senatorial district race, validating Democrat Jim Brewster's victory and handing the GOP another loss in the courts. From ruling: "Contrary to Ms. Ziccarelli’s reading, the Court finds that the
Supreme Court expressly held that the undated ballots at issue remain valid ballots that are properly counted under state law."

Rep. Conor Lamb: "A woman died out there tonight, and you're making these objections. Let's be clear about what happened in this chamber today: invaders came in for the first time since the War of 1812." Lamb: "We know that that attack today, it didn't materialize out of nowhere. It was inspired by lies, the same lies you're hearing in this room tonight, and the members who are repeating those lies should be ashamed of themselves. Their constituents should be ashamed of them."

Fetterman has been removed by a vote. But there's a lot of confusion and shouting. "The chair will not cede the rostrum," Fetterman shouts over Corman. "Senate is at ease!" Fetterman yells, as Corman moves the process along to the reading of election results.

Two separate Senates operating at this point.

(By the way, Fetterman was removed as presiding officer in that vote. Not as lieutenant governor. Got some Q's on that.)

Here's how the count has changed in Pennsylvania since shortly before 9 a.m., when Biden took the lead:

PA has uploaded 25,476 results. 23K were mail-in ballots.

Biden won the mail-ins by almost exactly a 2:1 ratio, and his lead has climbed from 5,510 to 13,471. By my estimate, there are *at least* 95,652 mail-in ballots left to tally. Like we've said all day (and which was just confirmed w/ batch from Westmoreland County), Biden is only expected to grow lead w/ these. Even in Republican strongholds.

Allegheny County, Pa. is addressing the 35,413 mail-in ballots that are pending (for lack of a better word).

29K "have been ordered by federal court to not be handled or processed until 5 p.m. on Friday," county exec Rich Fitzgerald says. Another 6,800 w/ other issues (damaged in mail, missing date, etc) will be looked at Friday at 9 a.m. after county swears in a Return Board.

Many are asking why they keep hearing 735K mail-in ballots are left to be tallied in Pennsylvania.

CNN just cited this number, then said they’re still awaiting results from Allegheny County. That’s not true. Allegheny County is done. So I’m gonna keep standing by my numbers here, which appear to be correct.

You're gonna hear the word "pre-canvass" a lot today in Pennsylvania. Here's what it means, under election law: Image Let's thread pre-canvassing here.

Allegheny County says about 25% of the ballots are at "some stage of processing." More than 13,500 "have gone through the declaration review and have had the declaration envelope opened and the secrecy envelopes extracted."

Here's everything you need to know about the Allegheny County executive's call for a 100% vote-by-mail election. post-gazette.com/news/politics-… He (@ACE_Fitzgerald) says it wasn't enough to postpone the primary and allow counties to consolidate polling place.

“That doesn’t absolve counties of the responsibility of still staffing those hundreds of polling places. That’s the rub."
