A 🧵 about Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt which was the most important pre-#Roman settlement in the Apt region. The Albici, the #Gallic tribe inhabiting the region abandoned the site when the Romans established Apt, 6 km south. Image In 1009, a #castrum (fortified settlement) was established on the rock, and walls began to appear in the 11th century.
Ramparts were built in the late 13th and early 16th centuries, as the village grew beyond the initial defensive walls. Image

The Place des Vosges, Paris's oldest square, has a rich history spanning from its creation in the early 17th century to its present-day status. Initially named Place Royale, it was designed by King Henry IVas part of a larger urban planning initiative, aiming to modernize Paris. Image The square was inaugurated in 1612 and became a favorite spot for the French nobility. In 1800, Napoleon Bonaparte renamed the square Place des Vosges in #Paris 🇫🇷 in honor of the Vosges department, but later in 1870 its name was restored and has remained in use since. Its origins take us back to 19 BC, when the famous fountain was just the end point of the smallest aqueduct in #Rome 🇮🇹 known as Aqua Virgo, which had been active for over 2,000 years. 1- The Royal Cistercian #Chaalis #Abbey was an abbey located 49,4 km north of Paris, at Fontaine-Chaalis. It was founded in 1136 by Louis VI of France.
