There is a huge disparity between what most people think this society is and what it actually is. Worlds of difference between the reality and the fantasy that most people choose to live in. I’ve seen this in microcosm. I used to teach in public schools. And I kept running into this issue where parents had this one version of how school worked in their heads that was completely divorced from the reality their children experienced.

As a certified professional teacher with decades of experience, I’m tired of these myths about homeschooling, short 🧵

1. Teacher training is a lot of bullshit. A lot of bad teachers go through teachers collage fine and end up teaching in spite of being horrible teachers. I spent a lot of time during my teacher training coming up with stupid metaphors about my teaching journey, doing a ton of busy work and sitting through classes taught by self important assholes who loved to hear themselves speak. It cost a lot of money, and was a waste of time

Wearing a mask now is not a demonstration of a resistance to peer pressure so much as it is a testament to the ability to resist submitting to blind authority. The Covid cautious reject authority for our principles, the sheep surrendered theirs when authority told them too. It seems like the peer pressure is coming from all around, because what is observable is the ubiquitous dropping of protections by everyone. But the pressure is ultimately coming from a single direction. It’s coming from the top.
