🧵The latest Republican Covid Oversight Committe provides a clear picture of the alternative reality that will soon be taking charge of US health institutions

It's worth considering the implications for the FDA when the grifters become gamekeepers 2/ It's hard to know which came first, claiming a cure for covid as a reason for removing all measures, or the grift, likely it depends on the individuals.

Lets look at a timeline of the promotion of alternative treatments that continued to be promoted once proven ineffective

There has been ongoing attacks on the CCDH since they published their disinformation dozen report years ago on the biggest antivax promoters online, this named RFK Jr and others who have been embraced by MAGA appearing at a conveyor belt of conferences 2/ The campaign against CCDH comes from the GBD crowd

🧵 Amazing when RW media decide to care about SEND students

When it comes to VAT on private schools they are suddenly worried about SEND pupils, but they backed austerity, the dismantling of CAHMs real terms cuts to school budgets, and loss of 20,000 support staff mainly TAs 2/ I think it was autumn 2017 we had a protest regarding SEND students being let down over 80,000 educators and SEND parents gathered outside Westminster, it didn't get a single mention in the media from any outlet

The role of the oligarchs Thiel and Musk in this election is absolutely crazy, as are the proposals from the Christian Nationalists

This is a massive story, all the details really does call into question the MAGA cult and purveyors of disinformation in other countries In the UK we should be looking at those who have attached themselves to the US radical right, are promoting the same false narratives about gov censorship whilst promoting disinformation

More details on the FBI release here

All those apararently censored and silenced academics getting another major platform

I wonder if they will be concerned there are no alternative voices to their pro-infection stance It's an effort to rewrite history, so here's some threads that cover what really happened

🧵Toby Young’s Daily Sceptic article suggesting the anti-racism protests were state controlled public manipulation

Claims "anti-migrant" protests were completely spontaneous, the crowd in Birmingham was too white in a city where visitors are "forced to play spot the white face"

2/ Because the far-right didn't show up in numbers, that the claims of new targets was part of developing a "meta-narrative" for "collective public Muslim-loving"

1/ When they have essentially built a campaign model and an ecosystem of opaque orgs and astroturfs around disinformation any efforts to tackle disinformation, even that which might contribute to violence on the streets, is seen as a threat 2/ For instance Kingsley has been responsible for sharing all sorts of anti-vax disinformation, for instance promoting claims by Bernie, Naomi Wolf etc

No comments or condemnation of the rioters, just outrage at tackling disinformation

This is not an organic uprising of ordinary people, this is a coordinated attack, a culmination of years of disinformation and division

Badenoch has similar backers to Braverman, culture wars crap 2/ That's why Braverman has already given up, the backers decided to go with Badenoch

The act was the creation of Tufton Street and Toby Young’s
Free Speech Union, and made Arif Ahmed formerly of FSU the czar responsible for regulating Free Speech across higher ed 2/ While claiming to protect free speech concerns were raised that the powers to hit people with heavy financial penalties would lead to a fear to challenge certain views

It's a lot of power to give to the whims of a single czar

🧵The Covid in Schools Scandal

While much of the media claims the inquiry is accomplishing nothing, its slowly revealed the gov knew transmission occurs in schools and causes harm to a not insignificant number of children 2/ The much delayed testimony of Simon Case reveals that covid in schools policy ignored the science and was designed without expert advice

1/ Contrary to its name, changes in the Data Protection and Information Bill further shifts the balance of power towards commercial interests 2/ The bill gives the Secretary of State the power to add to the list of interests that can access your childrens data through secondary legislation avoiding parliamentary scrutiny Image

1/ The thing is, the UK is institutionally not curious about identifying harms directly caused by covid

For instance it's been a year since they stopped collecting and publishing data on long covid 2/ Many families of children with long covid have faced gaslighting and struggled to access meaningful care

🧵Cass Review
Not had a chance to read the whole thing yet, but have had time to look through the main points

What positives can be taken from it? The time spent on waiting lists was identified as a major issue, all children's services are massively underfunded at the moment 2/ I would like to think that this will lead to an investment in all children's support services like CAHMS, more pastoral support in schools etc

That would be a positive outcome, regardless of what else is included in the review, unfortunately real terms cuts are the reality

🧵Worth noting that ADF International are named in the EU Tip of the Iceberg report which tracked over $700,000,000 of funding including US and Russian into a network of religious extremism intent on rolling back reproductive and sexuality rights
theguardian.com/world/2024/apr… 2/ The Southern Poverty Law Center has labelled ADF International a hate group, the increase in their activity here should be concerning, however it is not surprising
