Quick 🧵 about the upcoming midterm elections. In 2014, turnout for the midterms was abysmally low. Overall turnout was 36%. Among voters 18-29, the number was *20%* 1/
Going into that election, things looked tight. But at least in part as a result of turnout, Republicans took control of the Senate. That meant Mitch McConnell became Senate majority leader. 2/

Was just re-reading the 1992 Casey concurrence by Justice Blackmun, author of Roe:

In light of tonight’s reports about the scores of WH staffers still on interim security clearances, here’s a quick thread on background investigations and WH security clearances, b/c there’s a lot of confusion out there. 1/
As everyone now knows, background investigations on WH staffers are conducted by the FBI (OPM does most others in govt). The results of those investigations are reports known as BIs. BIs typically serve a few distinct functions. Two are relevant here. 2/
