True possible cost of disclosing you’re autistic adult:
counsellor you go to for initial session re mild stress mentions “Cassandra phenomenon” -says you should know it
You Google later: hate sites about how awful/unempathic autistic people are.
Feel 100x worse 1/
Ironically past counselling’s where I came to trust empathic relationships after a distant family
Had worried how I’d find counsellor who wouldn’t know/reproduce autism stereotypes/stigma/misinformation.
Underestimated how being stereotyped could risk mental health 2/

Since diagnosis with an ASC I’ve realised there are dozens of situations where it would be helpful to have this taken into account
But almost no situations where it would be better to be misunderstood due to current deep ignorance of autism
So mostly I don’t disclose
I’m still reeling from when the Head of a school for mostly autistic kids told me to my face she doesn’t have autistic teachers because they’d lack emotional self regulation-& autistic governors would find the job too hard
