New EHRC statement on the GRR Bill. This line jumps out: “We have set out our analysis of the cross-border implications of the Bill for the operation of the Equality Act 2010 in briefings and letters to Scottish parliamentarians and the UK government". equalityhumanrights.com/en/our-work/ne… In the 'Notes for editors', the statement links to its correspondence with the Scottish Government, dating back to January 2022, when the Commission first raised concerns. This also shows Baroness Kishwer Falkner met with Shona Robison to discuss these, on 21 January 2022.

This co-signed statement asserts the GRR Bill "will have no impact on the experience or requirements of rape victims in court". At Stage 3 SNP MSP Michelle Thomson lodged an amendment specifically intended to address this point. She explained: rapecrisisscotland.org.uk/news/news/a-st… "Amendment 39 specifically relates to men who are applying for a GRC who have been charged with a sexual offence, but have not yet been convicted and placed on the sex offenders register. It simply seeks to pause an application for a GRC until any court case has been resolved"

Academic & gay rights campaigner Dr Benjamin blocked from joining the Scottish Parliament LGBT+ cross-party group. Members refusing the application "include MSPs & several representatives of taxpayer-funded lobby groups backing controversial reforms".
telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/… "Cross-Party Groups (CPGs) provide an opportunity for Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) to engage with external stakeholders on a particular subject". But not the wrong sort of lesbian, it seems, who can be excluded from the political process.

What is playing out here should be ringing alarm bells in any police force which has introduced crime recording policies that have replaced sex with self-identified gender identity, in terms of public trust. southwarknews.co.uk/news/exclusive… 4 women reported being attacked by a male, in the same area of London. The local press then reported: “a 53-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent... Police say they believe she is the only suspect, and had initially been mistaken for a man.”

In 2020 @CallieBurt published an article on the US Equality Act that discusses how the Act creates a clash between sex-based & gender id-based rights, and "might be modified so as to protect LGBTQ people without undermining women’s (sex-based) rights". journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11… Callie has now been removed from her position on the Editorial Board of 'Feminist Criminology'.

Fascinating piece on Dentons (law firm) recent report on self-id, which argues children should be allowed to change legal gender without involving medical professionals or parents, & the state should take 'action' against parents who attempt to intervene.
rollonfriday.com/news-content/d… The report advises activists to 'tie campaigning to more popular reform' that acts as a 'veil of protection', & to avoid public campaigning/press exposure, given a lack of public understanding. Plus pesky TERFs are being platformed in the debate. In other words, avoid scrutiny.

‘Ontario's provincial police service will no longer release the gender of people who are charged with crimes and those who are victims of crimes. The policy change comes following a review of legislation and the need to be more progressive.’
