The current crypto fund will be my last at the firm 2/ When Chris and I started our first crypto fund in 2018, it was a moonshot experiment. Thanks to the hard work of many, it has exceeded both of our wildest expectations. Today it's more apparent than ever that web3 will transform the internet

1/ Read why @a16z opposes @stevenmnuchin1’s proposed crypto rulemaking that was dropped under the cloak of the holidays
a16z.com/2021/01/04/why… 2/ We welcome well-reasoned and well-vetted regulation in the crypto space, but trying to squeeze regulatory changes into the tail end of an administration w no process is a terrible idea

1/ There’s a reason the regulatory rulemaking process provides 30-60 days for notice & comment. So that those outside govt - consumers, industry, public interest orgs, academics, etc - have a meaningful opportunity to weigh in & provide viewpoints govt may not have considered 2/ In fact, agencies are encouraged to consider a longer comment period for complex areas. The global and distributed nature of crypto is nothing if not complex. The reason for this amount of time is simple: it’s about due process. The opportunity to be meaningfully heard.

1/ my talk👇 about how the btc blockchain was used to catch public corruption & money laundering -- by a pair of corrupt fed agents investigating the Silk Road who themselves extorted and embezzled. Had only fiat been used we wouldn't have caught this pair 2/ people who talk about the traceability of fiat and wires often haven't had much first-hand experience w/trying to obtain bank account records increasingly held overseas and the antiquated treaty process it entails, esp in fast-moving investigations
