Interrupting my paternity leave to share some final @Twitter-related news: I’m leaving the company after over 7 years. The truth is that this isn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn’t my decision. Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction.

this isn’t necessary a comprehensive list, but a few things that come to mind: strategy. we're intentionally making space in our portfolio to solve gnarly problems and opportunities, even if they involve foundational changes to the product (e.g. Spaces, Topics, Communities).

Proud of all the teams at Twitter who have been working hard to increase our product development velocity. We’ve been busy! Here’s a recap of a bunch of things we’ve shipped or started experimenting with just in the past 2 weeks: Super Follows

today we're rolling out our first public testing of Communities, which gives people a place to have more focused conversations with people who share the same interests.

Communities introduces a two very key mechanics that I think are worth touching on: 1) Tweets you post in Communities are "narrow-casted" to only the people in that Community. They're still public Tweets, but they aren't amplified to all of your followers and they don't show up on your Profile. We think this can help lower the pressure of talking on Twitter.

Today's very bittersweet, but I’m mostly filled with gratitude. I’m grateful because the experience of building Periscope was when I first learned how it feels to pour your heart & soul into building something and to feel reciprocated with utter love and satisfaction in return. I had never worked so much and so hard in my life as those first few years of Periscope, and yet it felt nothing like “work”. I’m grateful because that time will always serve as a reminder that life’s too short to not work on what you love.

As we head into #Election2020, this morning we announced some important updates to our policy and to the product experience which you can read about in detail here: blog.twitter.com/official/en_us… Under our updated civic integrity policy, Tweets which claim an election win prematurely (without certification by applicable authorities) will be labeled & direct people to our US election page.

Every day, people come to Twitter to see what’s happening. One of the unique things about Twitter is that “what’s happening” is fueled by people sharing their thoughts openly, through Tweets. But sharing your thoughts publicly can be intimidating! 🧵 People often tell us that they don’t feel comfortable Tweeting because Tweets can be seen and replied to by anybody, feel permanent and performative (how many Likes & Retweets will this get!?). Many of us can probably empathize with this:

We’ve heard questions from some of you relating to our work to drive healthy conversation on Twitter. People are asking us 1) about the breadth and precision of our work & 2) the impact of our work on the Search experience. We wanted to address these questions transparently here. In May, we started using behavioral signals and machine learning to reduce people’s ability to detract from healthy public conversation on Twitter. This approach looks at account behavior & interactions with other accounts that violate our rules.

We've heard some questions recently about the status of Verification on Twitter, so wanted to address directly. Updating our verification program isn’t a top priority for us right now (election integrity is). Here’s some history & context, and how we plan to put it on our roadmap Back in November we paused public Verification b/c we wanted to address the issue that verifying the authenticity of an account was being conflated with endorsement. Our intention was to hit the brakes until we had a fix across policy/enforcement/product.
