Something I wish I’d understood about maternity leave as an academic, now that I’ve had time to reflect: it is obviously wonderful in life-changing and joyous ways, but it can also be a period of profound identity crisis. Vulnerability incoming (short thread)… In this profession our self-worth can get tied up with our jobs/productivity, and postpartum both are suddenly gone and replaced with round the clock care of a tiny human - an amazing & happy change, but it’s jarring! It’s hard not to feel like a huge part of yourself is gone

Today I received the worst review of a manuscript I’ve ever had. The TL;DR: great study, shame the results were negative. Here’s why that’s a crappy attitude - a thread (1/n) For some context, we tested whether physiological stress influences a morphological trait in a lizard. Lots of reason to believe that it might, results in other studies have been mixed. So, totally worth investigating further!
