I appreciate the sentiment here, and this is a good discussion from two Nintendo veterans about the situation the Switch is really in and how Nintendo can succeed or fail:
I keep hearing this idea that Metroid Prime 4 will be a launch game for the next hardware, and I mean, I could see that IF what we're talking about is that it runs on a regular Switch but has upgraded performance... but I can't see a world in which it doesn't run on Switch

It's December 18 (in Japan...), which means it's the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy!
While it can certainly seem that this groundbreaking RPG came out of nowhere, it was a culmination of the work Square had done to that point. Let's look at the road to Final Fantasy...
Square's first game The Death Trap (1984) was a text parser-based adventure game. Rather than being structured around individual programmer-designers who'd create games by themselves, Square was built as a collective of specialists who built games as a team.

Line's kind of sort of moving! I rounded the corner of Fillmore! Lots of people asking what we are lined up for. Line is much longer than it was when I got here, almost all the way down the block on Lombard.
