My friends. Think before you use Chat GPT during the interview process. Image Honestly the best part of ChatGPT is finally showing the world that take home tests are dumb and shouldn't be used (and so is live coding during interviews for that matter but that's a topic for another day)

RESUME FEEDBACK FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEERS:

As a hiring manager, I’ve been spending some time reviewing resumes of those who were recently laid off and I’m seeing the same questions on repeat, so I’m posting this in hopes that it will help someone! (🧵) 1. Make sure you’re consistent with formatting and grammar. If the job is in the past, the verbs should also be past tense. If you’re ending bullet points with periods, always do it (vs. some with and some without). I like seeing this as a measure of your attention to detail.

I’ve been advising @PolyworkHQ for a few months and I’m absolutely thrilled to have moved my personal site over to Polywork!

As a business owner, co-host of 2 podcasts, book author, mentor, speaker, and advisor, my work is multifaceted.

kvlly.com I've always considered myself a polymath – this is a journey that started when I was much younger. A job title has never fully described what I do. That's why I love the term "Polywork" - it encompasses the work you do both during your 9-5 and outside of your 9-5.

I'm reviewing resumes again for another full-time developer hire and I'm noticing a lot of the same work across portfolios, especially for newer devs.

A few thoughts: 🧵 There's absolutely nothing wrong with including work from a bootcamp or coding course in your portfolio, especially since it's all you may have. But I'd love to see some more info around it. "Hangman Game" is a very common one to see. Tell me what you learned while building this!

There was a point in my past where I was laughed at for charging $50/hr, that a college student shouldn’t be charging that much.

Today my minimum engagement is $50,000 for a build.

Don’t let others dictate your worth. Only you get to determine that. If you're curious about my freelance-to-agency journey or you're interested in starting your own journey, I wrote a book last year called Start Freelancing Today that I think you'll enjoy!

His palms are sweaty
Knees weak, arms are heavy
The unit tests are failing already
Code spaghetti

He's nervous,
But at his laptop he looks calm and ready
To squash bugs
But he keeps on forgetting I'm really fun at parties
