6 years ago I left my job to start selling weed with my friends. In the first 18 mos we did $13.6M.

We got acquired, did some M&A, and went public in 2021.

Now it's come full circle- we bought the business back.

Here's what's next: For background, LTRMN started in 2016 in Portland.

Like everywhere on the west coast weed has been decriminalized for years here, medical programs started in the 90's.

Some guys I grew up with rented a 800 sq ft garage and were flipping packs to dispensaries.

Wild West shit.

The 9 best books I read in 2022

(You won’t find these on any other list)

THREAD: That’s because I read almost nothing but shipwreck stories and pirate biographies all year lmao.

James Clear doesn’t have shit on the life and times of Captain Henry Morgan.

Let's get into it, mate. 🏴‍☠️

The dust is starting to settle on this TikTok video:

• 4.2M views
• 974 orders
• $28k revenue

Here are a few takeaways: My wife is finally over doing fulfillment lol. Been a long weekend.

With relatively low AOV our next move is to have manufacturer package the product all the way so that self fulfillment is literally print label and slap it on.

3PL costs just eat margin on a sub $30 product.

I'm firing up Twitter Circles so I can share stuff I'm working on that I don't want on the TL.

- BTS
- Transparency
- AMA on anything
- Also weird random shit

Drop a comment if you want in we're gonna give this a run. 🛠🤺 Oh shit ok ok ok gonna resume adding folks after my kid is down tonight lol damn.

We'll kick this off with a breakdown on the Falcon Mew (like a chicken coop, but for birds of prey) at my new house just to keep y'all on your toes and filter out any normies.

Golf is blowing up right now and golfers are brand loyal, spend $, and play the game for years.

Massive LTV in this niche.

Here's how I’d build a golf brand: The pandemic was a catalyst for golf, but it just so happened to coincide with the gen pop of millennial dudes finding the sport.

When I was growing up I was surrounded by Gen X and Boomers at the golf course.

It's our turn now.

24.8M people played in 2020
Another 300k in 2021

If I had the time, I'd be building in these niches:

• Home services for millennials
• Kids apparel that isn't dorky
• Golf brand/equipment
• Productized accounting
• F1 media/content

Here's what I'd do: 1/

Home services for millennials

Interesting because there's a bizarre combo of millennials who don’t know how to own a house and boomers who run their business like it’s 1995.

Couple directions to go:

The best BAYC merch project that never happened:

(THREAD) In the midst of NFT insanity, my guy @jackbutcher reached out to me with an idea for putting some Bored Ape IP and likeness to use.

He wanted his BAYC #5207 to do it's first "gig", and he wanted to do it with a cannabis brand.

A year ago my wife bought a small eCommerce business doing $1k/mo.

Since then she has more than 8x'd monthly revenue, and it'll do $10k in June.

Here's how we're gonna take it to $50k/mo: My wife is half Chinese and (like many people of Asian descent) suffers from alcohol flush syndrome.

"Asian glow"

One sip and she's bright red, headache, heart racing (thats her in pic)

Her company Glowless.co sells a patch that puts an end to these side effects.

You remember the headlines last year about the sneaker reseller whose mom was a Nike VP?

He was making $100k/mo selling inside info on a paid Discord channel — and told a journalist about it.

He just popped back up on Facebook with 400 pairs of Jordan's for sale.

THREAD! 👇🏼👇🏼 Image The other night @brendandunne spotted good ol Joe in a private sneaker group on Facebook, back at it again with 400 pairs of the banned 1's that dropped in 2020.

Is Joe finally ungrounded from last years press cycle? Image

The whole indica/sativa thing was made up by some dude 240 years ago.

It was wrong then and it’s wrong now, so why is it the foundation of the entire cannabis industry?

It's time for a thread: More than 200 years ago some bloke in France proclaimed that another species of the Cannabis Sativa plant existed: Cannabis Indica

Jean Baptiste Lamark said that the Indica plant, from India, grew shorter and stubbier, took longer to grow, and it had different effects and usage

How to build a cannabis brand in 2022:

(THREAD) As legalization proliferates across the US, everyday we see press releases about an MSO (multi state operator) launching a new "brand".

Elegant packaging, cool logos, and punny names.

These are not brands.

I'm trying to convince my barber to create his own haircare products...

Here's how he could make an extra $40k this year building a small brand: I've created all kinds of products in my day, but my family business used to be skincare and cosmetics so I know it very well.

I gave my barber this game during one of my Friday morning cuts while we were discussing the products he carries.

3 negotiation tactics I use to get what I want: Pretext:

I’ve read a few books on this, like Chris Voss’ "Never Split The Difference". They’re useful especially if you want to study and become a student of negotiation and the psychology around it.

I don’t. I just want to negotiate efficiently without complex mind games.

Years ago I couldn't find emoji balloons anywhere so I sourced em on Alibaba for $1.56 and sold em on Amazon for $19.99.

Sold 650 packs…

- Cost $7.77 landed to FBA
- Net ~$8 each after ads

$10k in sales in 2 months.

Lemme show you what I did: Emoji balloons are everywhere now, but that was not the case 6 years ago. It was kinda shocking considering the scale of emoji popularity and I knew it wouldn't last long.

Also, I really wanted some emoji balloons for a some party or something.

My wife posted her brand’s 8th TikTok video with only 69 followers.

In 4 days it got ~220k views and drove $4,860 in sales.

TikTok is wild.

Here's the breakdown: First, let the record reflect that I've been giving her a hard time for the energy she's been putting into TikTok. She's only been working on this biz for ~2mos and there's tons to do.

I was wrong!! @KelseyChan Happy now?

(she told me I had to include that if I did this thread)

5 years ago I left my job to start selling weed with some guys I grew up with. Our first year we sold $1.2M to dispensaries a pound at a time.

Now we're publicly traded and we'll do $130M in 2022.

Millions of jars, joints, edibles, vapes.

Here's what we did: I first posted my backstory in April. Since then I’ve met thousands of new people on here, we've gone public, made the largest dispensary acquisition in California history, and a whole lot more... so it’s time for an update.

A friend of mine is buying generic water bottles on Alibaba for $1.98 and selling em on Etsy for $14.99.

Made 509 sales…

-Assume ~$5ea for shipping
-Net around ~$7ea after Etsy fees

That’s over $3500 profit.

Lemme show you how to turn this hustle into a brand: Disclaimer - this is not a thread about water bottles.

This will break down exactly how to bootstrap a brand without large capital outlay so you can validate as you go.

You can apply this to any consumer product.

The Twitter app sucks for writing.

- No auto save
- Can't organize drafts
- Doesn’t sync across devices

So I built my own app: I've always liked writing, and didn't really do any of it outside of email until I started taking Twitter seriously.

I dove in and started writing for the bird app and it was brutal.
