A lot of Christians are afraid of “Deconstruction.” I’ve personally gone thru it and let me give you food for thought.
1. There are 2 types of deconstruction happening in the church. One is healthy the other is dangerous. 🧵 One type of deconstruction actually involves using scriptures to deconstruct unhealthy ideas and practices. Christ himself did this by deconstructing the Pharisees interpretation of scripture. “You have heard it said but I say…” using Scripture to challenge things. Healthy. 🧵

I was wrong politically. Though I’ve never fully sided with either party I often placed more hope in one party’s polices more than I should. I’m learning whether Right or Left…politics do well to manage systems, not souls. 🧵 Christ was not the political activist people try to make Him. Rome was a force that needed reform. And though Christ addressed the needs of the people he also responded to the government’s tax policy with “render to Caesar what’s his, and to God what’s His.”

Christianity is not a western religion, or a white people’s religion. Long before it reached Europe or the slave states in the south it was global and thriving. Dr Bantu @bantu_huSTLe makes some brilliant points here. Too often western Eurocentric culture dictates how to express faith. I grew up on Hip hop and somehow me not gravitating to “worship” music is weird to people.

I love Jesus but I’m not churchy.

I used to be embarrassed by that but now I realize its okay to love God but not fit in with Church culture. I don’t know all the hymns. I prefer rap or R&B styles over contemporary worship styles. I don’t wear suits. I can’t dress like a mega church youth pastor. I didn’t grow up on Gospel.

So I tweeted about social justice which many find in contrast with biblical justice. I can see how demanding govt to fill the role of the church is dangerous. Not my intention. However I wasn’t challenging govt with scripture. But the church to care about injustice. Cont.. Many are caught up on the term “social justice” and not the implications of scripture. I don’t agree with the how each tribe defines and uses terms. But that doesn’t stop me from getting involved.
