The mountainside is steep and rocky, but lxc leaps from ledge to ledge deftly. There’s supposed to be a rare flower that grows in the cracks of the rocky cliff that could be boiled as a restorative tonic, and lxc will not take any with lqr’s ailing health.

“YMJ welcomes SLL.” A-Xiang is imposing on the lotus throne, and lxc nods stiffly. “We’ve only just had the pleasure of a visit from Grandmaster Lan; to be graced again by the presence of SLL himself is a surprise.”

lxc sits at a table set out for him, laid with tea and snacks. “As mentioned in my letter, I have come on official business.”

A-Xiang feigns surprise. “Oh? What business would that be?”

“To discuss the relations between our sects. GSL has been a close ally of YMJ for years, and-”

“Relations wax and wane,” A-Xiang says, sounding bored.

…as the years pass by and Jiang Cheng grows older, he realises that so much of his pain came from trying to overcome his own mediocrity amongst a sea of extraordinary persons. wwx obviously, the twin jades, the Nie brothers, even jgy… he could have avoided so much agony if only he had realised and accepted it sooner. He is and always will be nothing more than merely average. Unremarkable.

It’s fine, he thinks. All of it is fine. He knows now he is nothing.

“Jiujiu look!” jl bounces up to him when preschool lets out. He still doesn’t move his arms when running, so it always makes jc laugh, as he does now when he picks up jl, swings him in a circle & settles him on his hip. “What do you want me to look at my little star?”

“I drew you a picture!” jl has it clutched in a fist, hopelessly crumpled. “For Father’s Day!”

“Ah.” jc’s heart pinches. “Why didn’t you draw one for daddy?”

“I did. It’s in my bag,” jl says, as if jc was being incredibly dumb.

AU where sunshot never happens because this is focused on #yuziyuan and #jiangfengmian reconciliation (sort of.)

msy was a small, well-known sect, far away on the edges of the map, not quite involved with the cultivation world. But what they lacked in numbers they made up for in sheer power, and yzy was the best, shining example.

I’m wondering if and how #yuziyuan and #jiangfengmian could mend their relationship. Communication is necessary but how? jfm doesn’t care about the rumours of wwx being his illegitimate child, or about him still being in love with cssr, so I can’t see him stepping up to defend yzy even if it’s right in his face

Platonic modern AU #rencheng where lqr gradually fills the place of a parental figure in jc’s life until jfm shows up at jc’s university graduation and people think he’s jc’s uncle and that lqr is jc’s ~real dad~ It starts in primary school, when jc is about 8yo. lqr knows jfm has taken in a child as a ward. He knows wwx gets on lwj’s nerves, and he knows lxc thinks the boy is good for lwj because it brings him out of his shell a bit.

“I’m here whether you like it or not and you can’t do anything about it!”

lxc pauses at wwx’s familiar shout.

“I can stop you from bothering jiujiu and making things even worse!” Oh no. lxc sighs, rushing to jc’s room. It’s still early in the morning, not long after breakfast, and lp hasn’t woken to its usual liveliness yet.

“I’m trying to save him!” wwx screams.

“No one needs you to!” jl screams back. “You’re not wanted and you’re not needed!”

Dinner that night is another awkward affair. wwx loudly declares he won’t be drinking any wine, sending the servant back with the jug. lxc sees Jiang Wei roll his eyes and he hides his smile with a bite of rice. Jiang Wei certainly brings the “fierce” to “fierce loyalty”. jc is obviously exhausted again, barely eating and disappearing after dinner. As lxc is led to his room, he spies Healer Yu leading a horde of assistants to the inner courtyards.

lxc wants to follow but obviously can’t, so after settling in, he decides on another walk.

lxc flies at such speed that he arrives at lp well before dawn. The guards on duty are beyond shocked, thinking only an emergency would tear Sect Leader Lan out of seclusion to lp at such an hour.

“Please wait a moment while we alert our sect leader,” one says. “No, that is fine. I can wait until Sect Leader Jiang wakes as usual.”

The guards share a confused look, but a couple lead him to the waiting hall and provide him with tea and some snacks.

“Sect Leader will be informed as soon as he wakes.”

It’s curfew, but lxc doesn’t budge from his seat in jc’s room. If he pays attention he can hear wwx’s voice next door, talking ceaselessly as he digests his research. lxc had asked a servant to fetch him some books from wwx, deciding that he should help research too. It’s even more urgent than the one to turn jc back into an adult.

He seals the hanshi shut in its entirety, and he circles the front room with jc still in his arms. “Don’t worry, Cheng-er,” he babbles, almost to himself. Even his voice is trembling. “Nothing’s gonna happen. I’m not gonna let them take you. Not yet. They can’t have you.” It isn’t long before there’s a hard knock on the doors, and lxc whips around, eyes wide.

“Xiongzhang.” lwj sounds as unperturbed as always. “Please open the door.”

lxc shakes his head. “No.” It’s too low for anyone other than jc to hear. “No, not now. It’s too soon.”

au set after the series.

In a mishap, jc turns into a 3 yo child.

#xicheng eventual endgame jc+wwx have sort of reconciliated cuz too much time had passed already and too many years where jc was alone with his thoughts that wwx will never understand even if jc talks until his tongue falls off
