By total chance I stumbled across these original copies of Coudenhove-Kalergi’s journal Pan-Europa - the first movement for European unification founded in the interwar years.

Some very interesting stuff in here… Image On the back of each copy is a map of this future Paneuropa, encompassing most of Europe and also most of Africa and other colonial possessions.

He (like many at the time) envisioned a word divided into enormous regional power blocs. Britain and Russia were considered their own.

For anyone interested in Central/Eastern European history, maps, history in general, or all of the above, if you don’t know about this book you are missing out.

It is free to download as a pdf and has some of the most detailed and interesting maps you’ll ever see.

Short🧵 Image To say it’s just a book doesn’t do it justice. It is a beautiful historical atlas covering over 1000 years of Central and Eastern European (CEE) linguistic history.

It goes far beyond just dialect continua, covering writing systems, holy languages, minority languages, etc. etc. ImageImageImageImage

Speaking of historical predictions, Pilsudski predicted the exact course of WWI:

"It seems to me that the Germans, with their technical advantage, will defeat Russia. The wealth and material resources of England and France, however, will prevail over German forces." Image It gets even more specific!

"With conviction," Chernov recalled, "Pilsudski predicted that an Austro-Russian war would break out in the near future over the Balkans. He did not have any doubt that Germany supports, and will stand behind, Austria-Hungary." Image
