Thread.
When we were in DC for weeks putting our bodies on the line to stop Kavanaugh, @WaywardWinifred & I would visit Bernie. We would be exhausted. He’d encourage us, remind us we deserve better than this & tell us to keep fighting & he has our back. That’s who he is.
Many people don’t know Bernie on a personal level. He gives a damn about us. He doesn’t like to see people hurt & in pain. I remember telling him about all the women sharing their experiences w/ sexual assault & I teared up, I looked at him and he too had teared up.

THREAD:
Over the weekend, I made comments about Israel that require context to understand. I was specifically referring to the racist argument at the heart of the nation-state law recently passed by the Israeli government – not the Jewish people. I apologize for the confusion.
This speech happened at the Annual Palestine Convention in Chicago where over 3,500 Palestinian Americans and their supporters attended. There were keynotes, lectures, trainings, fashion shows & entertainment.

I try not to engage the hate for my own mental health and self worth but every once in a while I jump in to affirm that I am not afraid and I will be who I am: an unapologetic Palestinian Muslim American mom activist/organizer from Brooklyn. Nothing will ever change that.
There are people who hate what I represent. I shatter every stereotype they have of Muslim women and my existence dismantles the propaganda they have spewed about Muslims and some folks have fell for because we need an enemy to blame our ills on. Muslims have become that.
