Licensed design disciplines will remain in the quagmire of practice/labor so long as professionalism is taught as exceptionalism and networking. Think of professional practice classes where the job letter and the portfolio are the crux of the course. 1/10 Yes, alums often come to the classes and talk about what they've learned over the years/decades. Or there are (were?) office field trips- where the students are given the pleasure of jamming into the conference room to wait for a welcome, slideshow, and maybe a tour. 2/10

re: Design and the Green New Deal, I'd like to take a moment to be the grumpy old man. It's a great challenge and made me do some (more) thinking. Yes, Olmsted was eager to change the status quo + part of this was framed by debates about industry and “technologies” of the time. 2/11
