The 1st paper of my PhD is out today in @NatureComms!

We show that word contexts can enhance letter representations in early visual cortex

With @D__Richter @MatthiasEkman, peter hagoort& @flodlan

Paper: nature.com/articles/s4146…

TL;DR? Let me unpack it in a few (or so) tweets👇 @NatureComms @D__Richter @MatthiasEkman @flodlan Our starting point is that letters are more easily recognised when embedded in a word

We've all experienced this effect, for instance when navigating in bad weather — it's easer to read a word or name (like a road sign) than a random string (like a licence plate)

But why?

NEW AND IMPROVED!!!

Happy to finally share the published version of our paper on hierarchical learning and confidence, out now in @PLOSCompBiol

journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

TL;DR? Let me unpack it in a bunch of tweet-sized bites.

We were interested in hierarchical models of learning in changing environments.

These are models that not only (at the 1st level) track environmental statistics, but also (at a higher level) monitor changes in those statistics, and adapt their learning accordingly
