Why was Google autocomplete broken when you searched for “assassination attempt on trump,” and why did a search for “trump rally” show results for a Harris rally?

My take as an ex-Google engineer: AI makes mistakes, but the bias lies in which mistakes get fixed. 🧵 For example, look at how YouTube reacted in 2017 when “Restricted Mode” accidentally restricted LGBT content, angering LGBT creators.

YouTube responded in an extremely apologetic tone, and they pledged to fix their mistakes.
