1/n Here's why EVERYONE should sign the Remain in the European Convention on Human Rights petition:

The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights & Fundamental Freedoms, better known as the European Convention on Human Rights, came into existence in 1953, 40 years before the 2/n EU even existed (1993 by the Maastricht Treaty).
Our government is currently attempting to conflate the 2 organisations and persuade folk that the Convention's Human Rights are an evil EU plan to steal our freedoms. In actuality it is the very govt itself which is attempting

Stepping out of the shadows

The ink on the Windsor Framework is barely dry and there remains a chance it could still founder on the rocks of DUP intransigence but Rishi Sunak has achieved at least one thing of significance.

The Prime Minister has shown how poorly served we were by Boris Johnson and his “oven-ready deal”.

The DUP and diehard Tory Brexiteers may yet decide to oppose what is a decent compromise.

Despite the generous concessions by the EU and the artful way Sunak has navigated the diplomatic minefield, they may still put ideology

1/4 Now, a leaked summary of the legal advice given to Johnson when he was PM suggests even that if the bill became law, it may not be worth the paper it is written on, and would not give the UK a sustainable alternative to Sunak’s deal.

The summary, circulating in Whitehall, 2/4 states that “the auspices of necessity” under which the government proclaimed the bill lawful “only provides a temporary justification” for ignoring the treaty with the EU.

Furthermore, it says “there would be a high likelihood the EU would challenge this argument in

a/j Labour sets out how it wants to be judged on whether it is meeting its growth 'mission'
Here is the Labour party document giving details of its “mission” to secure the highest sustained growth in the G7. This is one of the five missions announced by Keir Starmer last week. b/j Labour calls this an “ambition”, not a target, and Starmer said he wanted to achieve it by the end of the first term of a Labour government.

Today’s document gives more details of how Labour wants to be judged on whether it is fulfilling this mission. It says: We will hold

1/6 In his speech on Labour’s growth plan Keir Starmer said that on current growth trends Britons could end up poorer than Polish people by the end of this decade. According to the extract from the speech released in advance, he said:

We need to be frank about the path of 2/6 decline the Tories have set our country on. The British people are falling behind while our European neighbours get richer. In the East as well as in countries like France and Germany. I’m not comfortable with that. Not comfortable with a trajectory that will soon see Britain

Some light relief amidst our troubles (from a friend):

1/4 Hysterical story !
"Lois Conn:
My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.
As the plane prepared to descend, he came 2/4 swishing down the aisle and told us that "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super."
On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and

1/3 Tax burden set to reach highest sustained level since WW2 - at even higher level than forecast in March, OBR says
When Rishi Sunak delivered his spring statement earlier this year, the Office for Budget Responsibility said it was going to take the tax burden (taxation as a 2/3 share of GDP) to its highest sustained level since the second world war.

The tax burden is still forecast to reach a post-war record later this decade – only now it will peak at an even higher level.

Taking forecast and policy changes together … the tax burden rises

1/14 Tories have forced economy into 'doom loop', Labour's Rachel Reeves tells MPs
Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, told MPs that the Tories had put the economy into a “doom loop” in her speech responding to Jeremy Hunt. She said:

Nobody doubts that the Covid pandemic and 2/14 the war in Ukraine have had profound implications and the whole House is united in its condemnation of Russia’s aggression.

But Britain’s problems started before the Covid pandemic and they started before Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The UK has grown by an average

From European Powell :
I've said many times before, communities across the entire UK must come together from all walks of life and meet each other in Town Halls, community spaces and discuss what's happening, understand the myriad implications and start coordinating grass roots actions and utilize all forms of protest at their disposal marches, gatherings, strikes, online hashtagging, occupying public spaces. Local councils must be bombarded with emails and letters of concern as should MP's representing affected constituencies. Opposition parties are

1/6 Would politely suggest the following proactive measures regarding Freeports and LEPs

1. Communicate to as many of the public as you can info regarding both.
2. Write to as many news loutlets as you can find about both. 2/6
3. Ask questions re both of
your council
your local councillor
your MP(s)
those running your Freeport
those running any of your LEPs
your Union (if applic)

1/2 LEPS
Local Enterprise Partnerships
These appear to fill in the gaps between Freeports and provide communication corridors, possibly housing, and backup services.
e.g Yorkshire and Humber region connect Humber Freeport with Liverpool/Manchester...
In all probability they will 2a/2 eventually be sucked into the Freeports, if they havent been already.
There appears to be considerable secrecy in some areas regarding them. Many local councillors will be complicit, others ignorant of consequences, most will be verging on bankruptcy, so desperate for cash.

MESSAGE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

As you no doubt now realise, the govt tells you very little about its plans.
Any unpalatable plans are covered in lies or not covered at all.
Have you heard of Freeports? (cont) The govt is right now carving up the country into Freeports.
There are currently 8 of these.
March 2021 Budget announced eight freeports in England:

Check out the community I created: twitter.com/i/communities/… Do you know who is running your freeport area? Were you invited to be involved in electing them? Has any land actually been sold? Might there be fracking in your area? What could you do about this if you oppose it? Any concerns you would like to share, or have help with?

Thames Gateway

Thames Gateway (TG):
London Gateway's owner, DP World, the global port operator owned by the emirate of Dubai, said it will spend a further £300 million on top of the £2 billion it has already sunk into the site of the old Thames Haven oil terminal.
The facility is located on the north bank of the River Thames in Thurrock, Essex, 30 miles (48 km) east of central London. The deep-water port is able to handle the biggest ("Ultra-Large") container ships

Matthew Goodwin: Do voters in the Red Wall really want to slash taxes, the state, and spending on public services? My research suggests they do not. Do voters really think the Conservatives would be better than Labour at regenerating areas outside London and the South East? Only 17% say they would. Do voters think immigration is currently being managed well? Only 13%, and only 21% of Conservatives, think it is. Do voters expect the National Health Service to get better over the next few years? Only 15% think it will. Do working-class voters who flocked

1/n Why should I help fund via my taxes for HIM to have a hugely expensive knees-up at Chequers?
He never bought me even a cup of tea.
In fact, as a representative tax-payer:
he caused my relatives to die alone as some of the piled-high bodies.
he stole my taxes to bribe his 2/n associates
he repeatedly and laughingly LIED to me
and is STILL lying to me
He stuck two fat fingers up at me
as he stole my EU identity
stole my human rights
tried to destroy the UK
He should be in a prison cell

washed down with tap water.

1/n From the MIRROR:

To be more accurate, there is a price and we are paying for it.

The value of 2/n the pound is sliding which is making imports, especially petrol, more expensive.

This is turn is fuelling inflation which is leaving everyone worse off.

1/n Geidt says he quit because PM put him in 'odious' position asking him to approve 'deliberate' breach of code
Downing Street has now published Lord Geidt’s resignation letter.

Geidt says the final straw was a request to consider a proposal that he said would be a “deliberate 2/n and purposeful” breach of the ministerial code. He implies that Boris Johnson asked him to approve of this breach.

Here is the key passage.
