I go back to school next week! The last 2 weeks I taught a summer bridge for 2 hours a day for incoming freshmen. I learned a lot. Iβm obviously not an expert after teaching online for just 2 weeks (not even close). But here are some of my observations from live virtual teaching:
1. Logistically, have more than one computer if youβre able to. I had one computer for my Zoom class and another computer off to the side for attendance, checking my email for students having trouble logging in, and anything else I needed. Multitasking is hard.

Now that I know we are starting school remotely, I've been brainstorming what a meaningful start looks like digitally. I came up with a digital First Day of School Station activity that includes both synchronous collaboration and asynchronous work. This is what it looks like:
Station 1: Introductions. Students will be linked to a FlipGrid where they can record their names (so I can still learn them quickly with their proper pronunciation) and a Google Form survey that asks students other important information like their pronouns.

I give students the option to submit memes about the school year or our class and we look at them on the last day of class. They usually take this opportunity to roast me, which I donβt mind π They really outdid themselves this year ππ so hereβs a thread of our memes!
