Thread: The NEET (UG) 2024 exam is the murkiest that I have ever seen. Here is addendum to the my thread yesterday: 1. Results were scheduled to be announced on 14th June. At times, they are released a day or two before. In this case, it was announced on 4th June, a full 10 days before the scheduled date. Very clearly, they wanted lesser scrutiny with the nation busy with the election results.

Yesterday, NEET (UG) 2024 results were declared and some of the details are emerging are cast aspersions.
Number of Candidates Registered: 2,406,079
Number of Candidates Present: 2,333,297
Now, the concerns: 1. For about 1 lac MBBS seats, 13.16 lac students were made to qualify. The qualification score for general category student is 164 marks out of 720. That is 22.77%. Why do we bring down the qualification score so low? Any guesses?

For the questions on Congress and Gandhi's even in 2024, I recount on how Congress was voted to power by our parents and grand parents. And how, in most elections, a PM candidate emerged from the shadows to lead this great nation. A detailed thread: 1. Thread: The students protest that went wrong because of a young journalist who knew how to do his job left me disturbed on multiple issues: 1. Youth must participate on political issues and take a stand. The best US Universities are standing up for Palestinian people. JNU does it. Most revolutions started from universities. Youth must speak up that threatens their future. They have a stake in every decision we take.

Thread: Over the last decade, India has seen increased unemployment, decreased jobs, more graduates in the job market, increased competition and reduced chances of success. Here is some data for you to understand our free fall over the last decade and gravity of the situation: 1. UP recruits its police force through UPPRPB. In 2018, for 49568 posts, 19,38,363 candidates applied. That is 39 candidates for each vacancy.
In 2024, for 60244 posts, 48.17 lakh candidates applied. That is 80 candidates for each vacancy. In 6 years, the competition doubled.

Thread: Husbands and partners killing women was, is and will be a malaise if we limit the outrage based on communal lines and blaming Love Jihad. Some data:

1. In 2021 & 2022, India reported 8400 & 6500 dowry deaths. That is 20 women killed by their partners, every single day. 2. In 2021, there were 5292 cases under abetment to suicide of women. That is 14 women committing suicide because of their partners.

3. One in three women in India suffer domestic abuse. One in seven also reported a physical injury because of such abuse.

Thread: The movie #12thFail may be a good but the message by @VVCFilms is misguiding students. UPSC rules specify that aspirants can attempt the exam SIX times or till they turn 32 years. With the ‘RESTART’ clarion call, the movie destroys thousands of careers. Let me explain: 1. From 2006 to 2009 (4 years), a total of 14.52 lac students applied for UPSC Civil services (Average 3.63 lacs/year).
A total of 40,413 students qualified for the mains (average 10,103/ year).
A total of 7858 students qualified for interviews (average 2435/year).

Thread: Busting the IIT placement myth: Many believe that joining an IIT guarantees success. After 4 years, 23% of India’s topmost students are left holding nothing than an IIT tag. IIT name doesn't get you a job. It is the course that you do that gets you a job. 1. In IIT Roorkee, the total placements were 91%. But 60% of students of Engineering physics, 35% of civil engineering, 33% of industrial engineering students could not be placed though they registered for placement.

Thread: India Education Report Card on Higher Education (2014-2023):
The source of Data is from the UGC, AISHE and RBI Reports. I tried to take the latest data, where available from UGC 1. Excluding INI’s our universities grew 68% in 8 years from 655 in 2014 to 1100 in 2022. Most INI’s like IITs, IIMs, IISER etc. were existing stand alone institutions now getting a degree granting status. Deemed Universities, did not grow much.

Thread: India Education Report Card (2014 to 2023):
Let us start with School Education. How has the government performed in the last decade? This thread will explain through data, India’s efforts to claim its demographic dividend. Comparisons are drawn based on available data: 1. India’s population grew from 121 Crores to 139 crores in 2023, a growth of 14.64%.
2. The Number of govt schools in India were 12.04 lacs in 2014 but fell to 11.28 lacs by the end of 2022. While our population grew by about 15%, our public schools fell by 7%, widening the gap.

Thread: The horror stories by 'loot and scoot' admission agents entrapping Indian students for study abroad is growing by the day. Though this thread is just about MBBS Abroad, the modus operandi remains the same: 1. Of the 496 MBBS colleges that Indian students studied at, 218 colleges were not accredited even in their home country. Unfortunately, 18,878 Indian students were lured to study in these colleges.

Thread: Many people ask me why I decided to support the cause of the victims of Bada Business owned by @DrVivekBindra . Since I announced my intent, I had 2000+ victims joining a group and 650+ joined a zoom meeting with the lawyers. Let me share some compelling stories: 1. I met a housewife who took a gold loan to take the course to help her husband and supplement family income. With zero income and a loan, the husband has the additional burden of an EMI.

Thread: This is for all the victims who want a refund from @BadaBusinessOff and @DrVivekBindra. As committed, I had a couple of meetings with lawyers and the following action points have been suggested: 1. The legal opinion is that the case is strong enough to demand a full fees refund. A clear cut cheating case can be established. But it will a few months for the results.

1. Many have been willing me to take on Vivek Bindra and take this matter to a logical conclusion. I am neither a victim not have a locus standi. If he files a case, I would gladly take him on without giving in and force a ruling. But knowing my history, he wont do it.

Many students take the easy way out to pursue their MBBS dreams by seeking admission in Colleges outside of India. The choice is largely based on misleading information by commission agents. @careers360 is doing investigative reports. The first in the series: 1. Students who acquire a medical qualification from countries outside India need to clear the FMGE in order to practice modern medicine in India. The exam is conducted in June and December every year.

Thread: Empathy and IITs/IIMs/Central Universities: Empathy is a missing factor across Indian Academic Institutions. While law and policies forced public institutions to have students from marginalised communities, these students drop out and some commit suicide. Some data: 1. Thread: NLUs and NRIs:
1. This is about NRI quota abuse in Law School admissions. Unlike in MBBS, where it is limited to Private Universities, in the case of LLB, the abuse is in the publicly owned NLUs. In all, 56,572 students appeared in CLAT exam for admission in 22 NLUs. 2. In NLU Raipur, a candidate who scored just 9 marks out of a possible 150 marks, a rank of 40012 was able to get admission under NRI quota. The SC closing rank was 7137, ST closing rank was 11,277 and OBC closing rank was 2061. For general quota, the closing rank was 805.

Thread - NRI Sponsored Students and Meritocracy:
1. This year, the NEET qualification across categories was for General Category: 137/720 or 19% marks
and for SC/ST it was 107/720 marks or 15% marks. 2. The real issue is the NRI sponsored seats generally grabbed by students residing in India but pay the fees in dollars.

NITIE Mumbai is one of the best premier B-Schools in India. Even though it wasn’t an IIM, it charged half the fees of IIMs, Got better students and boasted better placements than most IIMs too. 1. On the 16thof August 2023, The government of India rechristened NITIE Mumbai into IIM Mumbai. The name board changed and India established its 21st IIM. The story begins here.
