A short thread about the demographics of Haldwani-Kathgodam municipality. Let us see what has been happening to it since 1991. Since we don't have any census past 2011, we will limit our analysis to 1991-2011 census. 1) In 1991, Haldwani-Kathgodam had a total population of 1.04 lakhs. Out of this, the Hindu population was 67K and the Muslim population was 32K. There were also ~4K Sikhs. In short, the Muslim population was 31% of the city.

1) An interesting bit of news from my village in Hassan district. Apparently, last night, they had arranged for band set and procession, with the dragging of the chariot with the murti of Shree Raama in the evening [traditional for my village, BTW - all utsavas are in evenings] 2) But when they had just begun around 2000 in the evening, police turned up and told them that they had orders to prevent any utsavas and the police officer in charge pleaded that he was also a Hindu like them, but he had his orders and he had to prevent that utsava.

1) Been seeing a few claims by apologists that the Gulf states would stop visas and/or deport Indians from the Gulf if India acted ruthlessly against the Islamist terrorists. Let us examine this claim a bit more closely, so that we can get some clarity. 2)a) The Gulf states cannot deport all Indians. Many Indians, especially those in higher levels of STEM, management, business, etc are indispensable in the short run for the economies of the Gulf states. They can be replaced, but Arabs would need to work at it for a few years.

The reason why Congress was so much better in 1950s and 1960s was because they had a large number of idealist freedom fighters in their ranks, even if their leaders were scum. The reason why BJP-RSS is horrible is because it is full of self-seekers and mercenaries. No one cares! Sanghis are even worse. They are so completely brainwashed by their organisation that there is no chance of turning them into Hindus. Do this experiment. Go to a shakha. Praise Golwalkar/Savarkar first. Then abuse Raama/Krishna/Hindu Gods in unprintable terms. No one will object.

1) Here is a claim that Persians folded ~2.5 years after Muslim conquest of Persia. With no assertion it this is an exhaustive set of revolts against the Islamists by Zoroastrians, let us examine this claim.

By 660, the Arab conquest of Persia was over. 2) On a side note, before we actually examine Zoroastrian resistance, Muhammad saw Byzantine-Sassanid war and was greatly displeased with Sassanid victories in the initial stages, since it was infidel victory against people of the book. So, Islam was very hostile to Zoroastrians.

To know just how fatally flawed the wooing of the Pasmanda concept is, one just needs to see how every massive atrocity on Hindus since the 20th century has been perpetrated, not by the Ashraf, but by the Pasmanda. Every single one! And BJP thinks they can be wooed away! 1) Atrocities on the Hindus of East Bengal [1905-1907]
2) South Punjab atrocities on Hindus [1915-1917]
3) Moplah atrocities [1921-23]
4) Various Bengal atrocities in 1920-1940s
5) Atrocities in Kashmir in 1930s
6) Partition atrocities

This is just an incomplete list.

1) The question is a serious one, even if it was asked aggressively. So it warrants a serious answer, regardless of the questioner's intent. I am going to list the methods that I know of to find the total number of Christians. Important point-none of the methods are fool-proof. 2) First method-Look at burial data. Christians and Muslims bury their dead, while the others burn the dead. By looking at the number of recorded burials in a district, subtracting Muslim deaths using 60+ age census data one can guess the number of Christians in the district.

1) It is sad, but @BSBommai has not only not been able to do much about the killings [which was expected], but has shown himself to be completely ineffective in dealing with Modi and Shah. The ugly scenes of police beating protesting Hindus will haunt him in the coming months. 2) If @BSBommai had refused to play ball with the Modi-Shah dictates not to do anything about PFI, he would have emerged as a hero who would stand up for Karnataka. He can still simply ban PFI in Karnataka and write a letter to Modi to ban PFI everywhere else in India too.

1) For 1000 years, we fought Islamists - from the arrival of Muhammad bin Qasim, to the fall of Tipu Sultan. Less than 16% of Greater India had converted [including eastern Afghanistan here] to Islam. In 200 years, Muslim population of the subcontinent has risen to 33%. 2) In short, when we were fighting the Islamists, we suffered far less damage than during peace. Peace is where the RoP grows - because we are lulled into a false sense of complacency. Low level Jihad is what they excel at, not actual warfare against soldiers.

All this hand-wringing about XYZ political parties being responsible for stone-throwing at yatras is ridiculous. In the 1800s, Muslims were throwing stones at Hindu, Parsi, Jain and Sikh yatras whenever it approached `their areas'. All this is neither new, nor political. This escalated massively in the 1905-1947 period, when communal riots were a dime a dozen. Coming to the post-independence period, riots were extremely common. Stone-throwing at yatras was par for the course in every town [even tier 2 and tier 3 towns] in the 1970s and 1980s.

I am noticing that western media is going wild with Ukrainean-ised names for all cities of Novorossiya-Kharkiv for Kharkov, Chernihiv for Chernigov, etc. I haven't seen this kind of hysteria since `First Iraq, then Chirac' days, when they wanted to say goodbye to French fries ... Here is something that western media won't tell you. The current Ukraine was only meant as an administrative unit in the old USSR. It was never meant to be a country and is a completely artificial entity. It cannot exist because the Ukrainean Nazis are intolerable for rest.

There is holocaust level of profiling of Hindu professors already begun in California, and will spread everywhere in the west within the next decade.

I wonder when the concentration camps will be opened for Hindus, though ..... I think @DharRenuka @AshimaWrites @jytkoul and other KPs will recognise the signs of the coming dissolution of Hindus in the west. The signs were similar in Kashmir and they had been visible for at least 5 years before the disaster struck ....

1) Sanskrit and Kannada have grown together in Karnataka since a millenium and half, at least. Just take any piece of Kannada literature - Sanskrit words in it will abound. Sanskrit enriched Kannada language and vice versa. Growth of one was never at the expense of the other. 2) Any Kannada activist opposing Sanskrit is being absolutely opposed to Kannada itself. The two are so commingled that it is impossible to remove Sanskrit from Kannada, nor is it desirable to do so.

Of course, many Kannada activists here couldn't read Kannada well either.

Shiv Sena was one of the biggest set of lumpen elements from its inception. I am not surprised that they have gone back to their old tactics. Shiv Sena evolved in 1960s to beat up south Indians and Gujaratis in Mumbai. This was how Thackeray rose to power and built up goondas. Shiv Sena taking up a Hindu avatar only came much much later - in the 1980s. Seeing south Indians [especially Tulu folk, from the coast] fleeing back to Karnataka after their hotels were vandalised and burnt by Shiv Sena was the norm. Sena was always an extortion mafia.

@sarkar_swati When Lakshmayya and Ganapathi brought the news of Japan's surrender to the Allies, Bose remained unperturbed. He said, `Well, don’t you see we are the only people who have not surrendered?' p. 52, SA Ayer, `Unto him a witness' @sarkar_swati `It was characteristic of Bose that when a comrade was down he drew closer to him, and when a cause was defeated he fought all the harder for it. That was his finest quality when displayed on the highest levels.' p. 356, Ba Maw, `Breakthrough in Burma'

The important thing is - Panchatantra, like Manusmriti, is a duty based narrative. In ancient India, everything revolved around duty. Failing to perform that duty was a terrible stain. There is no rights based narrative at all in ancient India. While speaking of the king and the royal employees, the focus is on the duties of both. A king who fails his duty towards his employees is held in extreme contempt, just as an employee who fails his duty to the king is. The culture is focussed on `honour and shame', not rights.

It is funny how many languages one can easily learn once one knows Sanskrit. I am looking at Kawi [old Javanese - most should guess where the word Kawi comes from] and funnily enough, without knowing a word of Javanese, I can read around 33% of the words in this language .... Even more amusingly, many of the sentences contain praise of Ganga-ma or Maharishi Ved Vyaasa. Old Javanese seem to have had a great deal of fondness for Ganga-ma. Her water, even for the old Javanese, was holy and purifying.

Here is something that BJP minions won't tell you. Their `leaders' in Kerala, Bengal, and [united] Andhra Pradesh are extremely toxic, unelectable folks, who put on saffron three days before elections and expect votes. They put in zero effort, have no connect to the electorate and often cannot even speak tolerably in the local language. They run extremely nasty campaigns that have no basis in reality. Their campaigns would only work in their shakhas. Just like JNU nitwits losing even Left strongholds of Bengal, these nitwits lose even BJP strongholds.

1) A little thread on the history of why BJP is strong in various places and why it is weak in others.

By the middle of the 1960s, the Congress domination was wavering, and non-Congress parties were beginning to see that if they could unite, they could defeat the Congress. 2) However, in different states, different parties were powerful. In Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and [united] Madhya Pradesh, chief opposition was BJS, in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, around various socialists, in Punjab around Akalis, in Bengal and Kerala, Communists.
