The criticism of Alison Roman's comments is two-pronged.

1: people are upset that she chose to call out two women of color for having "fucking sold out" or who are "running a content farm."

2: the broader convo about who gets to be the "authority" on ethnic food. On the first prong: there's nothing wrong with having different priorities for your business, or even being critical of "consumer culture"! But it's telling that the women Roman calls out are not white. There are LOTS of white women doing the exact same thing.

It’s the final hours of 2018, so I’m going to reflect a bit.

This year was Hard. It was, honestly, the type of year where I wondered if I wanted to make it to the next. I felt like a stuck gear, gummed up with anxiety and self-doubt, chronic pain and depression. 1/ The year seemed to pass in an interminable, disassociated haze of pain, so it’s easy, then, to wonder “did I really do anything? Did I accomplish anything?”
