A second audio from Berlusconi has leaked in which he is heard saying «Ukraine violated the Minsk deal, Zelenskiy tripled attacks on Donbas and pushed Putin to a special operation» that was supposed to last a week but escalated after the West sent money and weapons to Kyiv. 1/
Berlusconi says he’d rather not say out loud what he thinks about Zelenskiy. Then continues: «I don’t see how Putin and Zelensky can talk. Unless there’s an intervention, the war won’t end» worth noting this is a private conversation where Berlusconi asks for maximum discretion.

Berlusconi in hot water. This time around caught on tape suggesting Putin gifted him vodka and wrote him a letter for his birthday, which he reciprocated. Then audio adds: «I can’t give my opinion (on the war) because it would a disaster if it leaks » to the media.
Now Forza Italia in damage control saying he was telling an old story about Putin. But couple things don’t add up. Berlusconi’s birthday was recently (sept 29), he explicitly mentions the war in Ukraine (2022). Whether two stories are connected, in fact, is beyond point.

In 2018, Lega and 5star ran a domestic campaign, they played agitators and couldn’t care less about international perception. In tension, they stayed relevant. Meloni took the lessons, so there’s a whole sobering up going on. I’m still not sure what it does her base though.

If you listen to the Ukrainian authorities attentively, there’s two messages they’re pushing for:
I. A ceasefire is these conditions is a bad idea. War goals for Ukraine have changed with major weapons deliveries from the USA, can shift from defensive to counteroffensive
A ceasefire, which they don’t believe would last much, would allow Russia to take a breather and prepare for next. Question is; can there be peace without military strength? For Ukrainians, answer is no.
