No-one in our @Commonswomequ hearing yesterday suggested restricting RSE children receive, other than all MPs and all participants agreeing that it should be age appropriate.

A🧵 For me, yesterday was a lesson in where our politics sits currently. As the only Conservative MP on yesterdays panel I was struck by the palpable fear of other MPs at the fact that people may say things they don’t like.

But the pre-Brexit environment also needed every passport to be checked. We weren’t in the Schengen area.

The rules on external borders in the Schengen acquis are quite clear.

But there’s a few other things they’re clear about too…. 🧵 “Member States shall deploy appropriate staff and resources in sufficient numbers to carry out border control at the external borders, in accordance with Articles 7 to 14, in such a way as to ensure an efficient, high and uniform level of control at their external borders.”

Today we should have been hosting @BorisJohnson here in Workington.

I am relieved that the events of the last few days are coming to an end, but I’m also incredibly sad at the loss of a Prime Minister who led us to such an incredible election victory.

1/6 He delivered Brexit, led us through Covid, led the world in it’s support for Ukraine and has only just started to deliver tax reform that will benefit each of us.

Some of us signed the letter AND are members of @CEN_HQ - because being an environmentalist, being supportive of Net Zero without pricing out my constituents, and wanting to cut the cost of living for the same are not mutually exclusive @Conservatives principles. We need more renewables, without doubt - but we need more energy production generally

We also need to be honest on whole cost of renewables

We need to shift from frequency response generation to frequency response diversion - to H2 production, to district heating, to batteries

Levelling down the @NHS @sajidjavid ⬇️

We made a manifesto commitment to employ 50,000 nurses and 6,000 doctors.

We now expect 73,000 frontline NHS staff to leave rather than be vaccinated. @DHSCgovuk Impact assessment:

We’re so far down the rabbit hole now, I’m not sure how we get out?

“She is charged with committing a public nuisance by indecently exposing her penis to other members of the public, whilst masturbating from a property window.” Image Can Twitter hive mind point me to convictions of biological women exposing themselves and masturbating in public?

I believe this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the proposed planning reforms from @WildlifeTrusts, of whose aims I am a supporter (and a member of @cumbriawildlife)

Here’s why I think the reforms will result in greater harmony between our built and natural environments ⬇️ Under the proposals, land can be designated as ‘growth’, ‘renewal’ or ‘protected’. The latter obviously designed to restrict development in areas where development is likely to bring harm - thy includes green belt, AONBs or local nature sites.

Yesterday, Dominic Cummings set out a clear and reasoned account of his actions in late March / early April, followed by extensive questioning from the press. It was quite clear that there has been a significant amount of misreporting around the subject, and the statement allowed us a chance to cut through some of the more politically motivated reporting.
