Thread - 1. @GovernorVA today decided to impose a mandatory mask requirement on all Virginians. You might ask how, in a democratic government, he is permitted to dictate like a king? Good question. He declared a state of emergency as a result of the COVID crisis. 2. Virginia code 44-146.17 sets forth certain powers the Governor can exercise to protect citizens of the Commonwealth in the event of emergency. This is commonsense since emergencies require quick executive action and decisions with no time for lawmaking legislatures.

Today VA’s Governor Northam expanded the scope of his previous COVID-19 orders, disastrously extending the stay-at-home rule to June 10, a full 77 days from his initial closing of non-essential businesses. 1/n Dire consequences for Virginia families and businesses will ensue, but the Governor did not tell us about that, or about his plan for mitigating the coming disaster. He just chided us for going outside. 2/n
