Elbit Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries are scheduled to attend Canada's largest arms fair next week.

@ICJPalestine and @AdvocatesJust have filed a legal complaint with @CanBorder, calling for representatives of these companies to be denied entry to Canada. This is why. 🧵 In a briefing last year, Amnesty International identified both Elbit Systems and IAI as "contributing to Israel's unlawful occupation, genocide or other crimes under international law." /2

The CRA has finally revoked the charitable status of the Canadian Zionist Cultural Association (CZCA).

This comes over four years after @AdvocatesJust and I represented @RabbiMivasair and Khaled Mouammar in their CRA complaint, alleging a 🇨🇦 charity to 🇮🇱 military pipeline. /1 Image The CZCA has long funnelled millions of dollars to organizations that benefit Israeli soldiers and effectively subsidize Israel's Ministry of Defence. This included sending money to Friends of the IDF, the Association for Israel's Soldiers, and others. /2

CBC's Fifth Estate just released its investigation into millions of dollars in Canadian tax-deductible charitable donations being used to subsidize the Israeli army and illegal settlements.

This is why the issue should be of concern to everyone. 🧵 /1

How are Canadian "charities" backing the Israeli military and illegal settlements?

Charities are supposed to exist for exclusively charitable purposes and have a public benefit. However, some organizations with charitable status in Canada are funnelling money abroad to subsidize the Israeli military or financially back organizations involved in the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Canadian public policy and jurisprudence is clear: there is nothing charitable about such endeavours. /2Photo of Israeli soldiers. Source: https://www.alhaq.org/advocacy/19715.html (Al Haq)

Canada has finally imposed sanctions on Itamar Ben-Gvir (Israel's Minister of National Security) and Bezalel Smotrich (Israel's Minister of Finance).

This was only possible because of mass organizing in solidarity with Gaza. Here is why we need to keep the pressure on. 🧵 1/8 Image These sanctions target the lowest hanging fruit.

Ben-Gvir was convicted of supporting a terrorist organization (Kach), has glorified mass murder, and is a key force behind the genocide in Gaza. He currently sits as a member of Israel's Security Cabinet. 2/8 "Ben-Gvir is pictured pulling a gun at Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem on 13 October 2022 (Twitter)" https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/israel-palestinians-arming-jewish-militias-preparing-ground-terror

On May 19, Prime Minister Carney claimed Canada would take "concrete actions" if Israel continued its military offensive in Gaza.

Yet Canada continues its relationship with Israel's largest military manufacturer and will welcome it into the country tomorrow. 🧵 1/7 Hermes 900 drone. The Heseg Foundation was co-founded by Indigo CEO Heather Reisman and effectively subsidizes Israel's Ministry of Defense.

Let's examine where tax-deductible donations to Heseg end up, and why this appears to be at odds with rules set by the Canada Revenue Agency. 🧵 Image What is Heseg?

Heseg is registered as a charity and provides millions of dollars to fund the education of former Israeli soldiers at universities in Israel. "Lone soldiers" - those who volunteer from abroad to serve in Israel's armed forces - are also eligible. /2Image

Today, on behalf of @ICJPalestine's Legal Working Group for Canadian Accountability, we served notice on the Government of Canada of our intention to seek the prosecution of Canadian officials who have aided, abetted, or otherwise assisted Israel's war crimes in Gaza. 🧵 Image Over the last 40 days 11,100+ have been killed, including 4,600+ children. Multiple refugee camps have been hit by airstrikes. Food, water and electricity withheld. Hospitals are under siege. Over a million people displaced.

Israeli officials have called it the "Gaza Nakba".
