Mrs. Dr. Patterson raises a fair question: is “white theology” a system like “black theology”?
The answer is no. Black theology is both the anticipated and needed corrective to white theology, a system that too often provided spiritual support to oppression. 1/5
White theology is the theology of slavers, Jim Crow proponents, segregationists, and the Klan. It’s the theology that disallowed freed slaves from attending white churches, seeding the creation of the black church in America. 2/5
