Okay, one more mini-thread on the SBC / Southern Baptist thing. 🧵
This is SBC hero and missionary Lottie Moon... a missionary so beloved that the annual special missions fund drive is named after her.
The SBC was founded in 1845, when Lottie Moon was five years old.
Soon after her conversion, she felt called to foreign missions... but the SBC didn't send single women to the missions field.
Fortunately, the SBC changed their mind and by 1873 Moon was on her way to China.

Abortion rates are currently at the lowest they've been (they're at pre-Roe levels, meaning even though abortions are *legal* nationally they're happening at a lower rate than they were back when they were illegal).

Every couple months (or less) there's a story about some influential Christian leader who turns out to be a predator, or an abuser, or something like that.
Cue all the people who are shocked and dismayed and saddened.
But how we elevate leaders is a core piece of this. 1/
We LIKE leaders who are all flash and glam, people who keep telling us they are perfect and know all the answers.
We like them tall and beautiful to look at and preferably rich or successful in some way.
We are the Israelites shouting to God GIVE US SAUL AS OUR KING! 2/
