Across the world, courts continue to play a critical role in climate action and accountability, and climate litigation is expanding and deepening. A glimpse of the latest developments abroad and in South Africa ⬇️🧵 1. In June, five European claimants, aged 17-31, launched proceedings in the European Court of Human Rights, asking the court to order their governments to exit the Energy Charter Treaty, which allows oil and gas firms to sue governments for lost profits.
