Nigerian youths did not say #EndPolice. Now police is trying to blackmail everybody by leaving the cities and their inhabitants at the mercy of armed robbers. Yesterday, a young lady was shot dead at our bus stop at the close of work. It looked like a robbery because they accosted her in front of an ATM gallery where she went to withdraw money. Again, it looked like an attack because nothing of hers was taken and even her sister was not robbed. She was shot in the head after she refused to join her stalkers on their bike. The paratransit mode needs to be confined to where it belongs. Where it will be playing a feeder role for BRT and other formal modes. Nigeria is about the only country where paratransit competes with formal modes of public transportation. Some would argue that paratransit is creating employment for our teeming youths. That is very true. It is for the same reason the government did not consider outright ban.
The exclusion of paratransit from major routes means higher patronage and higher income for BRT.
