hello soon-to-graduate seniors, i hope your semester is going well, and you are doing OK with everything. please pull up a chair. we need to talk. /1 first, you teachers get how nuts a normal spring semester senior year is, and how mega-nuts spring semester senior year 2022 is. if you need extra help, ask for it. need a little more time on something, ask for it. need a mental health day, take it. /2

a few notes about teaching in these 'interesting times.'

1. i am having students sit together in a classroom for as long as needed and not one second more. crits, lectures, 'active' learning, yes. when we are done they can leave — sometimes this means class lasts for 30 minutes. 2. i have enacted my previously tweeted ‘engagement’ policy vs. an ‘attendance’ policy.

3. i still hold students fully accountable for their education like i always have — they still have to get their work done, do well, pay attention, etc. that does not change.

designers help shape society & culture —they solidify ideas into tangible things many can experience.

yes you need a job, but as a designer if you choose to solidify ideas that make the world worse, that spread fear & hate, that foster division & exclusion — that's on you. you are responsible for the work you make, and "that's what the client wanted" does not absolve you of that responsibility.

your work says something... so what are you saying with it?
