If we have a pause in the OpenAI drama for 15 minutes (lol, who am I kidding?), probably worth taking a step back here... This is beyond a *ridiculous* situation. But these people are not morons. They are serious people! This is pretty clearly all the boiling over of some fundamental tensions as to the direction of OpenAI. Move fast versus move cautiously. For-profit versus non-profit. Etc.

Apple has yet again failed to read the room. In this case, the courtroom. This was always inevitable. Maybe not here, but eventually. Apple sorta tried to get ahead of it with Japan settlement, but didn’t go far enough. This emboldens lawmakers and engenders continue bad will with developer ecosystem.

Quick rant about 2019 Apple.

Love the AirPods. LOVE them. Probably favorite Apple product of the past 5 years. But... …I’ve had 3 pairs break in different ways so far. All related to no longer charging and/or syncing. …I’d like to believe I’m fairly saavy about such things. OBVIOUSLY I Google all I can to try to troubleshoot the issue myself...

Apple wants you to have two takeaways from this letter:

1) China
2) iPhone (particularly in China)

But there’s a bunch of other things buried in there... apple.com/newsroom/2019/… First, when is the last time Apple had to revise estimates? I can’t recall. After years of sandbagging, they’ve gotten more realistic in recent years. But they keep saying in the letter that they knew it would be a challenging quarter, but still missed badly. Not good.
