The Chandrayaan-3 landing process is divided into four phases:
- Rough braking phase
- Attitude hold phase
- Fine braking phase
- Terminal descent phase

Rough braking phase: This phase begins at an altitude of 30 kilometers from the lunar surface. The lander's velocity is reduced from 1.68 kilometers per second to 100 meters per second.
